teacup everywhere Seems like everywhere I turned today someone was talking about teacup yorkies or teacup chuawuah (spelling) I'm not kidding vets, walmarts then on the phone with church member. |
I know what you mean. I feel like it's a losing battle. The general public thinks there is a teacup yorkie. Joey's around 5 ½ pounds and people always ask me if he's a teacup. I always say, "no he's standard, anything under 7lbs is standard." Then they insist that standard is much higher. I think it the poodles fault! |
Chloe is a Shot Glass Yorkie :D |
....even at the groomers too:( |

I have any itty bitty. |
I was walking Chloe with my friends Yorkie who is quite large around 8lbs, and someone called her Teacup. I go nah, shes a Shot Glass and thats a Margarita Glass Yorkie. The lady had no words in return. |
I have a itty bitty. |
i cant stand the name "TEA CUP"   |
tell me about it...i get into some deep lecturing when it comes to family and friends...they keep insisting that Yoshi is a teacup...and i am like there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie...he might be a tiny yorkie but no teacup..hehe |
It is annoying I saw the other day a commercial for teacup yorkies and maltese, they were stuffed animals for little girls. Arggh and it made it all cutesy because the yorkies or maltese whichever one they choose come with a purse. I bet some of those little girls will be asking for a real one next. |
Why is ok to call some teapots and not call others teacups? Its just a word to describe if the puppy is small or big. Why is everyone getting so upset about a little word. |

If I heard a vet, groomer, etc use the term teacup I would turn around and walk right out the door. I don't trust uneducated people with Tilly. As a groomer, you should also know these things. That is part of the training. That's very unprofessional. |

I must clarify it was not the vet who said it, we were leaving with Zoey and this lady had one in her coat and she said I have one like your at home but this is a teacup. |
i took my tiny female puppy to thr vet least week for a respiratory infection..and she is small (she wa 3 weeks) but she is much smaller then the litter mates and so one asked how big will she get i said 4-5lbs maybe..she said "they get that big"!!!!..i looked at her like she was crazy and explained the teacup myth.. then someone called me on my puppies yesterday i explained they are standard size..and real snotty she said "what is standard" i said 4-7lbs (7lbs and under) so i starting tell her about teacups..she cuts me off and ask if i know of any reputable teacup breeders i said there is none..she hung up on me:rolleyes: |
I hate it also!! Everywhere i go, I get asked where i got my teacups!!!   tumi is 3.5 and gracie is 4 lb so they are a bit on the small size but gosh i hate the word teacups! And i just told them there's no such thing and i can't tell you where i got my teacups since they are not teacups! |
i am so with you all on this... but i am so tired of lecturing... like an above poster said, you just get looks like you're the one who's clueless   ...there are a few good ppl in the world though every once in a while someone comes up that knows what they are talking about...or are at least open to hearing what you have to say... |
I love my little Gina, she was gifted to me from a woman who went into an assisted senior living place. Gina weighs 2lbs 4oz and is just a "yorkie". I cant take her anywhere without someone mentioning that she is a teacup. I just get up and move to another part of the doggie park. LOL!:animal-pa |
It's a marketing word... The thing that would bother me the most (besides the title teacup) is that the dogs are used as an accessory, and typically have heath problems...or even worse, people try to bread the little babies. It's concerning to me that they are so small. What is a "safe" small size for a Yorkie, anyway? I think my Trixie will be about 5 lbs. I was really looking for a 6 lb baby. :) |
Zoe and Zorak are littermates... Zoe is 3#, Zorak is 6.5#. When folks refer to Zoe as a 'teacup' I just explain that she was NOT bred to be that way, she was the *whisper* R.U.N.T. *end whisper*... I try to educate that the AKC does NOT recognize any teacup breeder and that with the smaller size comes many health issues. It is not going to end though when stars like to carry their teensey pets around like a fashion accessory. |
I COMPLETELY AGREE!! it's beyond annoying |
