Is this normal?... Gizmo, just in the last week or so, has started chewing on Babsy's ears. I tell him no & he will stop for a minute but then I look up & he is at it again. Most of the time she just ignores it - I guess he isn't biting down hard but sometimes he follows her around with her ear in his mouth. I don't know if he bites down too hard at times or she just gets sick of it because sometimes she will flip him over on his back & hold him down but he only lets up for a little while & then he is gnawing on her again. I guess he is teething (on one side he still has a baby k-9 & the adult one too) but he has also started trying to hump her. Babsy is an older, more experienced, lady of 4 so she just turns away from him or nips at him if he persists but I don't know if the ear chewing is a teething thing or a sign that he is trying to dominate her, or if he is just a little strange. Any ideas? |
hahaha i think that's cute.. my chippy does that to rocky.. and he gets annoyed and does it back. |
Tucker totally does the ear chewing thing to Lexie, but she just retaliates by chomping on his back leg. It's cute and funny to a point and then one bites down too hard and yelps and I have to separate them until they calm down. He has tried to hump her twice and for my taste that is twice too many  I clap my hands to scare him when he does it and tell him no. It hasn't happened sense, but I'm afraid the ear chewing and leg biting is here to stay ;) |
My little ones always bother my Boykin Spaniel..jumping up to her face and trying to nibble on her ears..I stopped the ear nibbling with Bitter Yuck spray and when they jump on her face I say a loud UH UH..and they know to stop..its annoying for Sadie and she is too meek and mild to do anything to them so I stop them for her lol..it takes practice but if you get after him every time you see it happening and stand up and say UH UH or NO loudly and walk towards him..he should stop..soon you will only need the sound..hope this helps.. Dawn |
im not an expert at all and maybe a breeder can clarify, but i have thought that it is some sort of "courtship" routine.....dexter has a toy piggy and he will sit for an hour nibbling away at its ear and then he will mount it. kind of sound like a similar situation...but with a piggy instead of another yorkie. hhhmmm, im interested to see what others say! |
Yeah, I don't know what the ear nibbling is about... Bitsy does it at every opportunity to my cats, and boy do they hate it! My cat KoKo would manage to get away and swat her. My other cat GiGi would stand really still and cry until I go rescue her. I'm just hoping it's a puppy thing... |
My Izzie does the same thing, but Tobey gets her back. Then again he tries to hump her. Izzie tries to bite the cats tails, but I yell "NO", but the cats will swat her if she gets to close. Then Tobey comes to her defense its so funny...:D I think I have the animal kingdom here LoL.. The only safe one is my fish Simon.... |
Well I am glad Gizmo isn't the only one who chews on ears that don't belong to him. As to the humping part, as distasteful as it is to me - at least he is humping her instead of a guests leg (my little silver lining):D |
