No you are not an idiot. I didn't buy from a pet store or a breeder...I rescued my little guy Brinkley & he did come from a puppy mill where the rescue had gotten him :( & we are on our 4th medication in 4 weeks, and his cough still hasn't gone away...we just got a new medication yesterday. It's hard to find a trustworthy place or person to buy from nowadays. It was just our choice to rescue one. But I think no matter where you may get your new little ones from they can always come up with something wrong....they are little & seem to be susceptible little colds & infections & viruses. This is the place to be though for answers & questions. Half the time I can just read through the posts & find the question already on here that I had. Good luck with Mascot! :aimeeyork |
You are not an idiot... My Tobey came from a puppy store... My mom got him for me as a bday gift 6 yrs ago.Tobey as alway been healthy since I've had him, though only thing was when my best friend and mom went for Tobey they thought he was a yorkie but he turned out to be a Silky. As for Izzie I got her through a breeder. I might have bough one from a puppy store but they are way overpriced and the chances they are puppy mill dogs is also a risk. But puppy store will always be around and ppl will always buy from there. |

I have a friend in Arlington who goes to the flea market in Canton. She told me that there is a whole section that is for selling dogs/puppies and that there are thousands of crying/barking dogs there. She won't go to that area because it is so horrible and heartbreaking. Puppies are there even when the temp. is 105 degrees. She doesn't understand how the public puts up with it.:thumbdown |
I've never bought a pup from a pet store but have 30+ years of breeding experience. The things your pup has can be picked up by any pup. Is there a chance he can have a genetic problem, of course but he could also be perfectly healthy. Don't look for problems. Just love him and get him good vet care if he needs it. Hope he turns out to be a very healthy dog |
Mascot Thanks so much guys... it makes me feel better to know I am not the only one who mae the big "petstore" mistake. Mascot goes in tomorrow for another stool sample check and weight. His 2nd round of meds are finished tomorrow, so they want to check before he is completely off them. I have an idea that he still has it becasue he still has diarehea.... here lies my problem now, the 2nd go round of meds they also gave me some forbid so Mascot would not eat his poo, yes he's a poo eater.... and I don't think the forbid worked becasue I caught him once. And at night I can't catch him because he doesn't even let me know he has to go outside. During the day he wimpers and is really good at going out, close to being potty trained... but I think at night the little toot thinks he can enjoy a lil treat and there is nothing I can do about it. I know this sounds horrible, but I even tried 1 night to put a muzzle on him , just till he got over the giardia, well that doesn t even work, he gets out of it pretty easy... My husband even put it on him once during the night but the litle turs is a houdidni. Anyhow, this is why I think he still has it. Frankly I have bleached so much stuff, my clothes, there are spots in the yard, I even accidentally got a spot on my carpet...lol. But I am just trying to avoid cross contamination, meanwhile Mascot is reinfesting himself... ok.... how do i get him to not eat poo? Thanks again Dot |
