Training two puppies at once I have two yorkie pups right now - Rocky is 5 months and Harley is about 14 weeks old. They are both currently enrolled in basic obedience class and usually do very well. Last night, Rocky was so distracted by what Harley was doing that he would barely pay attention to me. My fiance was training Harley while I was with Rocky. I know that the pups love each other, but it has never an issue of to who was boss in our little pack. They show all the signs of knowing who is in control, but the teacher told us that we have to separate them all the time until they both understand that my fiance and I are the alpha dogs. I guess I wanted to see what everyone had to say about training two puppies at once. Rocky & Harley stay by my side when I walk and sit before I feed them and always obey my commands, so is Rocky really showing signs of dominance or is he just missing his brother? I am against separating them because I got two for a reason! I wanted them to be buddies and enjoy one another's company. Sorry so long but any advice? |
Bumping for you. I haven't trained 2 puppies at once, but I'm sure someone here has! Welcome! :) |
I don't agree with this. My two are together all the time. Chewy is almost 2 and Sadie is 19 weeks. It would be horrible to keep them apart. They are buddies. I would think who ever was going to be alfa would be. We thought our puppy SAdie was going to take charge at first. (She tried to) But after a few days chewy took over and decided he was top dog. I guess we will see...I was told the girls like to take charge! |
2 Puppies Too!! I currently have two yorkie puppies as well! One is 5 months, the other is 3 months.... I am not having alpha dog troubles, they both seem to obey my fiance and i as well (we seem to have a lot in common) but their potty training is getting difficult... the older one is going potty everywhere and my fiance is just cannot stand it. I need a lot of help with them... my fiance loves them but he cannot stand the messes everywhere... she seems to be going well now, and now even running to her pad most of the time but she isn't pooping on the pad, and he is peeing there as of today (yesterday he actually pottied EVERY WHERE) but I have not seen him poop on there today... therefore not sure about him... But about the separation, don't separate them! Especially if they have already become buddies, since then they will probably associate each other, and being together with something they shouldnt do... and I do not think that is your goal. Since you got two... and i got two too... For A Reason!!! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Hope this Helps/Hope You Can Help P.S. I also posted for help and havn't gotten any responses (but I posted about an hour ago) |
