Occasionally i like to scan through petfinder.com;
i know adopting another dog is completely out of the question,
considering my parents have four shetland sheepdogs (shelties),
and i have sophie.

but going through petfinder today,
i came across Alli.
The read up just makes me so sad to see a happy animal in a cage.
:(

so if anyone in Louisiana is interested in saving an animals life,
here's Alli.
She's a yorkie mix, not sure what the "mix" is, haha
but she is 3 years old.
how horrible not to have a human to love you.
i cannot imagine.

after searching pet finder, i found the Yorkie Haven Rescue, in Texas.
oh how i wish i could go and adopt all those precious babies.
it would be like christmas to me.
I just suggest if you are in the area, to search petfinder,
they have gorgeous babies.
Like Loggins -- i want to adopt him. :(

I can't stand to go to those sites. They make me so sad. But part of the problem is the strict guidlines that you have to comply with before they will adopt a dog to you.

I know that they have to be careful cause there are a lot of bad dog owners out there. But I think many times they turn down some very good homes.

We just had a long discussion about this very subject on the Bichon List. I understand that the people who do rescue contributre a lot of time, money, and effort in rescuing these dogs, and they all have my utmost respect. But, some of the requirements are a little out of line, to my way of thinking. Not every child under the age of 10 is mean to animals, in fact, a lot of them are fine with animals. Before requiring that all the kids be older than 10, meet with the family and see how the kids act with the dog, ask questions. Before requiring a fenced yard, meet with the person and see if they are willing to walk the dog on a leash as much as the dog needs for exercise. While a lab may well need a fenced yard, a maltese probably does not. Meet with an older person before telling them they can't adopt a puppy because it might outlive them or be too much for them to raise. Every situation is different and if you really want the best home for the rescued dog, please give due consideration to all the facts, and don't force adherence to a carved-in-stone set of rules. And why not carefully ship a rescued dog if someone can do an in-home visit and assure that the home will be a good one. And why not adopt out of state under the same circumstances. I agree with having rules governing rescued dogs. I also agree with bending a little and giving a potential adopter a chance. I do think some dogs needing homes don't get them because of rules that are too strict in some instances.

I agree to this also, Maybe if they would lighten up the rules some..These babies would get homes so much quicker :( it is sad to see them in the shelters, As far as children, I have nieces & nephews that are that age and would never harm a dog or any animal for that matter...

strange, our shelters don't have strict rules?

my boyfriend and i adopted a puppy.
they didn't need anything from us other than $50 for the adoption fee?
also, in most of louisiana all they require is a family with a fenced in yard and a vet recomendation
