Crate Question I am going to start leaving Rudy ( 5 months ) in kennel during the day.. I will be coming home for lunch and to let him go out to potty and play for a bit.. what I need to know is it ok for him not to have water during that time? It will be about 5 hours... thanks. for any input.. |
That's a good question, and would like other's opinions. We have always left our baby with water, whether it is in her kennel or in a room with the gate up. However, early on, we did have kidney issues and needed to keep hydrated. However, the water was never an issue, and we rarely had an accident.:) |
If you mean it is five hours total and you will be letting him out in between, I would say it was fine. I would probably give water in the morning about 30 min before he has to go in his crate so that he can potty before you have to leave and do the same when you come home to let him out. |
i let them drink water in the morning.. then take them out before i leave.. i don't put any water in their kennels and they are always fine. |
I also leave Coby in a crate while I'm at work, and also come home for lunch. Coby has water in the mornings and then potties before crating. There isn't any water in the crate. When I get home for lunch, he does not seem overly thirsty when I first let him out. I think it might depend on the age of the pup. Younger dogs might need more frequent hydration. My older Shih Tzu has the run of the house and I envision that he drinks water in front of Coby's kennel and makes extra slurping sounds and tells him how wonderfully refreshing the water is. |
