Harness confusion!?! I just ordered an instep harness from Sassy Pup for KaCee. Those of you that use harnesses, do you leave it on all the time or just when you are going outside? I think putting it on everytime we go outside is going to get a little nerve wracking once we move the potty training outside. :scratchhe: Let me know what works best for you? |
Belle hates having it on all the time... she knows when i pull out the leash, and harness that it's time for a walk |
Ellie only wears hers outside. |
Mine only wear their's outside. |
I just put them on mine when I am taking them on walks. My yard is fenced though. If I had to take them out to go potty on the leash I would probably leave it on |
only outside for walks. we have a fenced yard to out to go potty. |
We're fenced, luckily, it does get on your nerves to have to put it on, and then take it off, over and over and over:laugh: We didn't have the fence when we first got Starr and we had to take her harness off, if not then she'd somehow get it in her mouth and chew on it. One time she got stuck like that and was crying something fierce. I can't leave them on the girls now, Izzy is chewer of ALL things and she's already chewed through 2 harnesses:p |
I did leave the harness on Little Man all the time at first. He started scratching around the area where the harness was at. So I started taking it off him when we come inside, and he quit scratching. I think it was irritating him when I left or maybe it was just uncomfortable. I no longer use his collar even for looks. |
I leave it on all the time. I think it's too much to put on the harness and the leash every hour or two. Tucker scratched at his at first but now he's used to it. I do take it off a night after the last potty to brush him out and he sleeps without it on. |
I only use the harness when she needs to be on the leash. Our backyard is fully fenced so we don't need it at home when she goes outside. If you're potty training to go outside and don't have a fenced yard you may want to consider leaving it on her during the day. I'd get a light weight one that's more comfortable. |
I only put mine on when they are going for a "walk"... It tangles in Hope's hair if I leave it on and Tootie rubs on his so we just take them off.. I have the step in harnesses(chattiesmom) and they are very quick and easy to put on.. it is a game for us, when they see me go for the leashes, it is alllll party time.. LOL d |
my girls wear two step harnesses,, but mostly only to go out,, with a leash,, and i'll put them on them to go to the vet or anywhere,, our rides home (235 miles), ,so ,, just in case,, gives you more to grab onto if need be,, Cricket once jumped out of my Mustang ,, scared the life out of me,, at the time she had on no harness,, and took OFF! she was having a ball!! thankfully no one ran over her!! (we were at a busy gas station, with a McDonalds next door,, she heard kids and away she went,, Thank the Good Lord,, an honest person scooped her up as she headed for his kids,, and brought her to me!! so yep, harnesses when we travel now, always, lol but here,, all inside,, they go au natural,,,no collar or harness inside,,as it messes up their coats so,, :animal-pa but we potty train inside,, pick up a harness and they are ready to GO! |
If I know we're going to be in and out a lot, I will leave them on for that time period, but usually I take them off every time we come in from going on a walk :) |
I only put the harness on when we go out for a walk. THe harness would matt Chewy's hair when it was on for too long. We have an xpen out side (Plastic) for potty. It works great because he goes potty with in 5 min because there is nothing new to sniff when you put him in there... I just carry him out because like you said the harness is a pain to put on and off all the time. |
