Question about boys wearing belly bands all the time Hi there! I've finally decided to institute another round of potty training for my boys, ages 2 and 3. The 3 year old is not neutered, and thus, marks in the house. The 2 year old is very well trained, but lately I have caught him peeing in the house also. They both go outside to potty - just not all of the time. I am making them wear belly bands in the house and then we take them off and take the boys outside frequently and reward them for peeing outside. My question is about wearing belly bands all the time. When we take them off, they seem to spend lots of time licking (you know where  ). Are the belly bands irritating them? For those whose boys wear belly bands in the house, do you use a special kind of pad? Is there any risk of infection? Do you have any tips for boys who have to wear them all the time? Thanks for your help. |
Great question...I've wondered the same thing, since Carson is in a belly band in the house. |
Does Carson seem to have any problems with them? |
Bleu boy is in a belly band as well but let me tell you what hubby did so you dont make the same mistake! I was holding Bleu and told hubby to take him out and he did and left his boy band on.... Bleu peed straight through it.....This has not happened again but it did happen so I wanted to warn you ......Poor baby.. I was so upset cause Bleu did not know any better.... Bleu can't lick after we take his band off because of cast but I will be watching for these signs.. Thank you for this post.... Also: I wonder if pads come in a hypo allergenic type? I dont know as I have had the same one for years and no problem  |
My two boys are in belly bands all day. I use the Poise pads they are super absorbent (in the Wal-Mart incontinence section). I have never had any problems with infection or irritation. They do lick when I take them off at night, but I figure they are just cleaning it, which is a good thing. With one boy it wasn't bad, but when we added the second boy the marking went up (I think they have to trump the others markings) and now that we have girls and have been breeding it is nonstop, hence the belly bands for the boys. |
Thanks for all the replies. Does anyone else have any more advice/suggestions? Thanks in advance. |
i have a little to add....i asked my breeder the same thing and she said that they are just trying to wash themselves...she told me to take a wash cloth with a little bit of baby bodywash on it and wash "there" so that if he had eaten anything different the urine wouldn't irritate him...works great but now if i let him see the wash cloth he takes off because he thinks he is gonna get a bath....(he hates a bath).....i made quite a few bellybands for him....we use the extra sixe serenity pads.....they are really thick and dont leak....but now that he is getting older we are probably gonna have to start changing him twice a day........:animal36 :animal-pa |
