just to get an idea.... i was wondering the age of your yorkie and its weight. mine is almost 12 weeks and 2lbs 7oz.... is she "overweight?"the vet didnt say anything when she was weighed but everyone's pup here seems to be smaller at her age :-/ |
I'm not an expert on puppy weight, but from what I have read on this forum is that there isn't a set weight for a set age. Adult Yorkies range in weight from a little under 2 lbs. to 19 lbs. That would mean that at 12 wks. of age they would weigh differently, right? |
Double her weight now is a general rule I believe but Yorkies will fool you !!! You may think she is gonna top out at 6 pounds and top out at 8 or you may think she is gonna top out at 5 pounds and she stop growing at 3 pounds... How much did mom and dad weigh? |
my york is 4 yrs old and 5.5lbs:aimeeyork |
I'll bet your baby is just perfect! |
I may have mis read your post and I am sorry.. Let me try again haha My boy is 7 months on the 23rd and is just pushing 3 pounds.... He is 3 pounds with a cast on... Your baby is going to be just fine... She is definitely not overweight I do not imagine but at her age my boy weighed 1 pound 9 ounces.... She is adorable ! Think she might wanna come live with us in Texas? ;o) |
When mine was 12 weeks, he was 4+ pounds..He is now 1.5 yrs old weighing 10 pounds. Oh... to answer your question..no she is not overweight..General rule is double their weight at 12 weeks old to get an idea of their fullygrown weight. Not always accurate but for mine, it was. Yorkies come in a variety of sizes and weight. Some bigger, some smaller so they can generally range anywhere from 3 pounds to 18 pounds although I think I heard of 24 pounds yorkie before. |
Zoey is now six months and weighs a total of 2 lbs. |
Lacy was a little over 3lbs at 12 weeks. She is 3 years old and weighs 7.5lbs now |
at 12 weeks double her weight.. at most you should add a pound.. not always but it can work..keep track and remember her weight at 12 weeks.. just to see how it works... |
KaCee is 16 weeks and weighs 2.2 pounds. |
I think that Livi was about that size at the same age. She is now 11 months old and 4.15 lbs....basically 5 lbs. Your puppy sounds like she is a perfect size! Tammy |
1 Attachment(s) my puppy will be 12 weeks next friday and she is 1 pound 5oz but both her parents were barely 4 pounds i am very curious to see what she ends up weighing... can you post a pic of your puppy? here is mine: |
I think "overweight" is relative to the bone structure of your dog. If you can't feel the pup's ribs when you pet its side, then it might be a bit chubby. But think about human kids; there are some skinny babies and pudgy babies, but they all get fed about the same to make sure they grow into the healthy adolescent they are supposed to be. So I think it is just best to provide the puppy with plenty of nutrients and food for fun puppy energy, and tons of love!! :p You won't really know until 9 or 12 months how big your puppy will be, and by then they will have captured your heart. AM I RIGHT YT?? I would love Tbone, 5lb or 50 lbs. |

I recorded Livi's weight at different ages so I went to look at it. She was actually bigger than what I had remembered...she was 2.11 lbs. at 12 weeks. Like I said, she is now between 4.14-4.159 lbs. She is just BARELY below 5lbs. Hope this helps some.... Tammy |
