warning nutro max http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html A friend of mine just sent this....thought Id alert everyone I know that cares about animals. L. |
Mine are on nutro natural, have been for quite a few months with no problems..thanks for posting though |
Thank you very much for posting this, although my dogs are fed home prepared meals. I thought most of the food recalls and scares were over and that the dog food companies were trying to improve. This just proves that it's never going to be over, I guess. |
my cat is on nutro thank for posting this im gonna switch her |
Mine area on Nutro Natural Choice Small Bites Lite - thanks for posting the link. They've been fine so far but will watch them even more closely. |
Thanks so much for the info! Just when you think that the scare has settled down and the bad guys are having to pay, you read stuff like this that it's still going on and not being reported. Yikes!! |
I have been feeding Nutro Ultra small bites for awhile now. I switched from RC because of the corn in it. I guess I will start watching the dog food recall sites again! ....... What the heck???...... is there no one that governs what they put in pet foods?? Pathetic. I am about to go from "holistic" to ballistic!! TY for posting... good thread.  |
How sad:( I don't think any dog food is safe. |
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html (Link quote from linda44) What is interesting is that some of the dogs who got sick/died had been on Nurtro for quite awhile, and others for a couple of weeks. IMO that would mean that something has gone a-foul in the last 4/5 months. It is beyond me why a company wouldn't want to keep their good name and clean up their product. What makes it worse is that Nutro has been considered a fairly good pet food. On the grade-scale is it given an 87 which is a grade B. Just think how many pet owners consider that to be a good food, and how many pets have the potential to become ill!!!! Hope Nutro gets their act together soon. |
wow, i used to feed nutro max before switching to wellness about 2 months ago. all is well, thank God! |
What's really strange, is I used to give our old golden retriever hamburger meat(no salt/pepper), and she would get sick on that just about everytime..even ran water over it to get all the grease off..so, some people food doesn't always set well with them either... |
Five years ago when I first got Tia ,I put her on Nutro Max and within a day she started to vomit. The longer she was on the food the more frequent the vomiting became.I asked the vet if it could be the brand of dog food, he said no, I was just feeding her to much junk.Anyways after about a week and a half I switched her to California Natural and the vomiting stopped...Hmmm!Well needless to say I switched vets after that. Many, many dogs have gotten very sick on this food...I would not feed it at all. |
The breeder I got my Izzie from was feeding Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice.. Izzie is on it, but I was going to change it anyway, but to what?? |
Oh My goodness. I have had serious vomitting problems with Teddy. You will see this if you read my other postings. He had been on Nutro Lamb & rice for 16 months and Chicken & Rice for a month. He had been fine on it, then 5 weeks ago began being sick daily. HUNDREDS of POUNDS of tests at the vet all proved normal. I thought it was the Nutro (although I hadn't seen this then) So he is now off it. I live in the UK so don't get all the foods you can in the USA. Now I am convinced it was the NUTRO. He has had general anatheics. X-Rays, Blood tests, Barium Swallow.... Drugs to stop vomitting, so if it is the NUTRO It will of all been pointless for the poor baby to go through. What dog likes staying in the vets having all these tests ? I will be contacting Nutro. It is odd that for 17 months he was fine on it. Anyone else had the same thing. Months with it being OK and then not ? He is only 18 months old now ........ THANK GOD FOR YT WE ALL GET SO MUCH INFORMATION AND ADVICE. :aimeeyork :animal36 |
Thanks for the warning. One of mine has been (or both) has been throwing up a little the last few days. I was switching to Nutro Max so was only giving a little each day thank goodness. I just ordered some new food that's USDA approved on line. It should be here Wed. I really appreciate the warning. I'm horrified that I could have killed my dogs! |
:aimeeyork Please try not to worry I have only just found out too, Both mine were on Nutro Levi for 18 months & Teddy for 17 months. Teddy has just started to get very sick. Levi has been fine. But they are both OFF Nutro now. I hope your new food does the trick. What are you going to get now ? :) :animal36 |
Is he better since he is off of it? Perhaps it was just the last batches? Good luck. |

We have had all sorts of tests and medication from the vet, BEFORE I heard about the problems with NUTRO We had 2 lots of 2 days without sickness in 5 weeks (so only 4 days) But that was with the help of medication. I began to change his food before I knew about NUTRO he has been on his new food totally for 2 days today, and since he has been on the new food and no NUTRO we have NOT had any sickness. He is not on any meds either. I tend to agree with you. He got sick around the time we started the new bag of food. |
Omg!! I started both of my dogs on Nutro Natural small bites a couple of weeks ago. Should I pull them off of it right away? Neither has had any trouble but I don't want any to start either. I don't have a lot of options in this area can someone suggest something else to feed? Also, what is the website for grading dog food? And is there a site that tells what foods have been recalled? |

How about Wellness, Canidae, Natural Balance? |
Home cooking is the way to go. I started feeding mine home cooked and you can tell they have much more energy,Rocco has almost completely stoped throwing up. You can just tell they feel so much better! They still get innova dry left out to nibble on though. |

They just had the BIGGEST BEEF for HUMAN CONSUMPTION recall in history a week or two ago... if we can't trust in our OWN food, we cannot ever trust in other types of foods! :( This is sad! Both my dogs are on NutroMax mini chunk and do well on it. I do see occassional throw up, but nothing in their behavior has changed. I think Im going back to royal canin. They did good on that :( |
