Chocolate yorkies I was looking for some insight on chocolate yorkies.I have been debating on getting one but they are so expensive.Why are they so much more then the standard color.Also are there any health concerns with this color mutation?I have asked the breeder questions but I am not sure if they are telling the truth or trying to sell me a dog.Also I have heard that the chocolate yorkies should reproduce if this is the case them the breeder should not even be doing this right or wrong? |
I heard that chocolate yorkies are a no-no. But I heard that parti yorkies are too. Some people are real sticklers on only breeding show quality, so in that case, chocolates should not be bred. Charging an astronomical amount of money for a deliberate mutation seems unethical too. On that note though, a chocolate yorkie sounds absolutely gorgeous (and yummy I love chocolate!) I wonder why its not allowed for show or breeding? Lola is a liver shih tzu, and looks very "chocolatey". I just love it. |
I do know that akc will recognize the chocolate color and register the dogs but they are not showable yet,mabye in the future.Are s**thzus I wonder if that is the same situation with the chocolate labs? |

I would recommend searching the internet and even this website...but beware you will get many different opinions on here about chocolates....tends to get heated...There are a few owners of chocolates on here also, so maybe talking to someone who actually has one would be a good idea....Happy shopping and IMO chocolates are a beautiful asset to the yorkshire terrier breed. :) Oh and i agree with above post...they should not charge more for them. They are still a yorkie, not something that should be over charged for nor treated as a "rare" find. They are simply little lovers just like any other Yorkie :) |
you should actually pay less for a chocolate since it is a mutation of the genes. (did i say that right?) |
I love, love, love chocolate Yorkies. I think they are so pretty.:D I wish I had known about them before I got mine... things might of been different around here.:dog: No, I don't think you should pay more than a standard price for a Yorkie. |
No, you should certainly not pay more for them but then look at all the peole who are buying yorkie-poos etc which is a mixed breed dog. IMO why not get a dog from the pound if you want a mixed breed. If you really want a chocolate keep looking but don't pay more money for it |
I own a chocolate, I would not pay more then I would have for an akc correct colored coat yorkie. My chocolate baby is awful precious for a mutant lol |
