To ship or not to ship? The question is do you feel comfortable with having your puppy shipped, or would you rather go visit and see do the both of you click? |
I think it depends on how well you feel you know the breeder..I had my biewer shipped to me, and was very disapointed in what I paid for, but, love him to death, now, on my last puppy(she's almost 7 mos), I knew the breeder from another forum, and talked to her on the phone, and saw pictures of her babies that she would e-mail..I felt very comfortable with her, and she shipped me my little girl and her brother(my son has him), and they're beautiful pups and did fine on the flight from Michigan to South Carolina..so, I think it depends on if you feel you have to see the pups first...I trusted this woman, and she's a fantastic breeder in my book..I would buy again from her in a heartbeat, but, at the time, I have too many dogs.. |
I would say definitely go see your new baby! JMHO!:) |
I would most likely fly out to meet the breeder and pick up the puppy in person. And then the puppy could fly back in the cabin with me. I would feel safer doing that than having the puppy shipped to me. |
I could have gotten a better deal on a shipped puppy and the person is well known here and she was great. I just didnt feel comfortable for the little guy being shipped all that way. |
Shipping doesn't bother me, as long as I trust the breeder and the puppy isn't too small. |
I could have had Piper shipped, but there was something about a new puppy leaving its mother for the first time and then being stuffed on a plane with nobody to console it that really bothered me. I don't know..it's probably not the end of the world. But it wasn't something I was comfortable with. I flew out and picked her up. And I don't regret it. She flew back in the cabin with me. Sure, it was pricier to do this. But not by a tremendous amount. More of a time investment and frankly, having a puppy is a time investment anyway. So it felt like part of the process to me. |
I would definitely go and see the puppy in person. :) |
I would never have a puppy shipped, enen if I new the breader It's not fair for a puppy to leave its mum and be shoved in a crate all alone with no one to comfort it. If I didnt know the breader I would never even consider having a puppy shipped as I work for Bichon rescue I spend hours making things and raising much needed funds for all those poor little dogs that are puppy farmed and end up comming into rescue because they have breeding defects. Its not only Bichons it's many other breeds too even our cute little Yorkie. So I would always advise people never to have puppies shipped. Its always best to see them with mum. Sorry if I sound blunt but this is an issue very close to my heart. Tina, Boo & Lucy |
When we picked up Sadie she was very scared. She was throwing up in the car, and panting. (She has never been car sick since and we live about an hour from most stores, so i don't think she was car sick.) I can't imagine putting a scared little puppy on a plane away from it's litter mates and Mom, with out a new owner to console it. I don't think I could do it. |
I would prefer to fly out and pick it up and then have it fly back in the cabin with me. I don't think I would have a puppy shipped. |
