New Pictures of Maverick and an update!
 

Maverick is such a sweet little guy. I love him to death but the problem is my husband doesn't. We've been working on potty training and the hubby is just not patient and gets mad every time he finds an accident. I would say that Maverick is doing it outside about 65% of the time which I think is good. I mean he is only 15 weeks old. He is very loving and follows me everywhere. I think my husband does not like the fact that Maverick won't sleep in his crate and he whines and cries the whole time. We keep trying but he just doesn't like it. My husband is in the military and we live in military housing so he's REALLY afraid of Maverick peeing on the carpets and barking! We could get in trouble and they could kick us out of housing. So he's worried about all of that. So he wants me to find him another home. I'm devastated about it b/c I've really grown close to Maverick. He is like my fourth child. So I'm in a bind here. I don't want to sell him but I feel like I have to. What do you guys think? He is really a good puppy but he's just that a puppy. Is there a way to just convince my hubby that in a few months he will be tons better? Will he be tons better? I go to school three times a week and I'm gone for about 4-5 hours two of those days. I don't feel like I leave him home much but he is barking when I leave and barking when I come home. Do you really think he barks the whole time? Surely not right? I just don't know. So any advice help would be great. Oh and here are some new pictures! :D

First off he is soo cute. I think you just need to remind your husband that he just a puppy, basically a baby. I'm sure eventually he will get it. Do you take in to obedience classes? As for the barking in another post I saw some recommend recording him while you are out to see if he barking while you are gone. He also may need to go for a long walk to release some energy... But I don't think you should give up..

I would sit your hubby down, and tell him how much this puppy means to you. It will get better, he is a baby and learning. Get natures miracle for the carpets and keep them clean with it. The accidents are small and will not ruin the carpet.
If you were being kicked out of your housing it would be different but so far no one has said anything right? If you have to rehome the dog to stay in your housing it's one thing but don't look for trouble!
Tell your husband this pup is a part of the family, there is no getting rid of him just cause he is being a puppy. I would in the most respectful way I could tell my husband I was not willing to rehome my yorkie baby that already is HOME! Your feelings matter just as much as his right????

Oh poor thing! I feel for you! Tell your husband that he is just a puppy, and to be 65% potty trained at 15 weeks is GREAT! Now, as far as him whining, maybe try putting him in an x-pen in the kitchen or putting up a baby gate and keep him in the bathroom with potty pads? That way he isnt in the crate and he is still out and about, but not totally free. Also, this way he cant ruin the carpets. Comprimise(sp?) I am sure there are things your husband has or does that you dont like...remind him of that!

(btw, I live in base housing too, sooo I feel you on the paranoid part about being kicked out).

Hey JennCarr! A fellow YumaYorkie owner here!! Your baby is darling and it could be that your husband is a little jealous. It will take some time and everyone including your husband knows that babies have to be potty trained and it takes time and patience. Do you have or could you get a doggy door or is one even possible in the base housing your in? Stick with it, you'll be glad you did because yorkies are great dogs!!

Thanks for the responses so far. Tonight I really sat down and talked to my husband. He now understands how I really feel about Maverick. I explained to him that he is just a puppy and he will get better. We are going tomorrow to look for a bigger crate type of thing and a doggie door for our sliding glass door. He is a really good dog and I just can't even think about parting with him. See he also chewed up a little bit of our carpet upstairs and that was the first week we had him.....he hasn't done it since then. I think that's what really got to my husband b/c now we have to replace the carpet up in that area when we get stationed somewhere else which will be within the next year. But that's just one little extra expense and not that big of a deal to me at least. I did try putting him in the kitchen but they way the molding is on the bottom we can't get a baby gate to go low enough on the wall. I'll have to take a picture to show you. My husband did have the dog tonight and he said he was cute. It's really the first time he's held him. He's like don't sell him.....we should keep him. So I'm hoping he sticks with that now!! Keep your fingers crossed. Here's a pic of my hubby with maverick!

awwww he looks mad that he got 'caught' loving on the puppy! If it makes you feel better, my hubby was a big bad Marine too! lol. He adores our Yorkies now and, as frustrated as he can get with them, he wouldnt trade them for the world! btw, what does your hubby do? a little off topic, but I pack parachutes. lol. OH... and make the hubby getinvolved, it may help him to bond more and put those bad thoughts out of his mind! Puppy love is pretty strong! :D

well low and behold my ziggy just chewed my carpet tonight, oooooo so bad. the carpet is bad here so not so worried, but oh man if it was new.:mad:

Awe, what a cutie! Well you're just gonna love my suggestion;) Ya ready for it? My suggestion is, sell the hubby and let the furkid stay, problem solved;) LOLOL!

HAHA Yeah he was like "I can't believe you took my picture with the dog" He likes him though I just think he needs time to realize that he is a puppy and he won't be like that forever. Justin works on Avionics on Harriers right now. So anything that is electronic on the aircraft he works on. He is getting ready to re-enlist here soon so he's putting in to either be a school instructor in Pensacola or a Drill Instructor in San Diego. I need to try to get him involved more that's for sure. He just always says "It's YOUR dog" So hopefully it will just get better from here.

Yeah we've only lived in our house here on base for a little over a year and they just renovated these units so the carpet is brand new. The Military won't total replace carpet at their expense until 5 years. So when we move next year we'll be replacing the hallway carpet where he chewed it up and then if he's peed on it and it smells when they clean them they have to replace ALL the carpets. Hopefully that doesn't happen. He is doing pretty good and I haven't caught to many mistakes on the upstairs carpet. Downstairs thankfully is all linoleum.

HAHAHA....GREAT idea!! Right now getting rid of Maverick would be like getting rid of one of my kids. So hopefully I can just talk him into keeping Maverick and not getting rid of him.

Awww I'm sure it will be fine! At first when I got Quincy my boyfriend was SOOOO mad because he didn't want a dog but I got him anyways. He would even let Quincy near him, he seriously acted like the poor thing was a diseased rodent! Now he cuddles with him all the time when he's watching TV and they get along great :) It might take a little while but they will probably be best friends soon.
I think you're doing really good with potty training and in a couple months he will be much better. Have you thought about getting an Xpen for your kitchen?
Is your housing nice there? When I was stationed in California (although it was an Army base) the housing was so terrible....we had earwigs and fleas all over the place and it was such a disgusting run down place. I promised myself to never live in military housing again- unless it was an Air Force base I guess because they have really nice stuff ;)

Do you put piddle pads on the floor? My puppies learn to use them fairly quickly.

I travel to dog shows and I always worry about the dogs barking in hotels so, when I leave the room, I turn the volume up louder than the sound of the dogs bark. People hear the TV not the dogs.

I was thinking maybe loneliness but she has a cat also. Maybe try leaving the radio on in the house or the tv so its not so quiet and lonely.. That maybe why he is barking. You could also take him for a good walk prior to leaving for school and let him run around to tire him out.. The xpen is a great idea also good luck

I just want to say I am sure your hubby will be totally in love with him in no time. It happens.... even with big bad Marines. Mike was a Marine for 24 years (once a Marine always a Marine) and it took no time at all until he was totally head over heels in love with these little guys. Be careful what you ask for........ soon it will be HIS dog.... and mommy will have to get another.

your baby barks when you leave and when you come home for reasons.
I doubt he barks ALL day, but he may bark when he hears others outside.

Have your hubby think of it this way. You said you have three other children right? When you were potty training them, did they have accidents on the carpets? I know mine did, lots. And on the couches too! In fact, last night she had an accident on the carpet and she will be five soon! I cleaned it with simple solutions like I would after my puppy and we laughed that the bottle needed a picture of a little girl on the bottle with the puppies :D Anyway, that's the way I see it. Sarah's accidents have not ruined my carpets and neither will Tucker's. Good Luck with hubby. I think you just need to remind him that the puppy stage will pass sooner than he thinks. In fact dogs learn pottying way sooner that kids do ;)

He is precious. I also use the pee pads, Tricksie learned very quickly to use them, I put them in every room for a while, now just in two places in the house. Even if they do have an accident, it is so small that there is no damge if you clean it up right away, just a little squirt of carpet cleaner and a wet rag.
I would consider;) divorcing my husband before I got rid of Tricksie.

An xpen would probably work better than a crate. With an xpen, you can fit pee pad, bed/crate with the gate opened, food and water bowl and still have some room for puppy to roam. Just put the xpen in a tiled area for easy cleaning and make sure you give him something comfortable (pillow/bed) in the crate/sleeping area. You can also keep the xpen when you don't need it and it does't get in to your way so much.
