Yorkie aroma I have heard from several people lately that Yorkies are known to have a certain smell. Have any of you ever heard this? Is it true? I had my little Brady groomed today, and he still seems to have sort of a musky smell about him.....not horrible, but not real sweet, and he's the absolute sweetest pup ever!!! He is groomed regularly, and I bathe him in between. |
Hmmmmmmmm don't think I heard that. I always thought Buddy smelled yummy everyday. One thing about the Yorkies when they get wet they don't have that doggy smell to them. I have heard some say that the ears can smell but I never experienced anything like that. |
A lady I know says the same thing- that yorkies have their own smell. She says she can't really explain it, it just smells like yorkie to her. I don't notice it though. |
After his bath, Joey smells like baby lotion, but as the week goes on he starts to smell like Fritos, not musky at all. Has Brady been fixed? Maybe the musk is coming from something the groomer used. Their natural scent comes out several days later, and for Joey it's Fritos, I don't know why. |
hmmmm my babies always smell sooo good and they are going on almost 2 weeks without a bath lol ... i usually bathe every week but was busy this past weekend...i hope this does not make me a bad mommy  ... i know for sure they appreciated the weekend without a bath LOL i DO notice if miss buffey is outside for a walk, when she comes back inside she kind of has a "dog smell" .. but if she is indoors all the time she never smells anything but yummy :D |
Bug has a DREADFUL odor sometimes, and that's a cue to me that it's time to run up the street to the vet to have her anal glands expressed! It's a very musty smell, but it goes away immediately after the vet does his thing (I know a lot of people do the glands themselves, but I'd rather pay someone else to do it...stinky yuck yuck). |
Pao has the doggie smell after he goes out, I think he smells when he is wet because it goes away once he is all dried up. I find that he has a nice smell on him, not from the shampoo as his shampoo has very little fragrance in it but more to like puppy smell. I love love love to smell him and he hates hates hates it when I do it on him :D |
Sometimes they smell odd due to diet, but I feed all three the exact same foods and one does smell like Fritos when it's time for her bath, the the other two always smell clean. |
My archie had a very distinctive smell - and not a good one - after we got him from the breeders, now after several baths he is finally smelling good :) Not sure what is was since the breeder bathed him often too:confused: |
Mine always smell good except when they are due for a bath |
Bella doesnt have a distinct smell..but I seem to remember some people on her loving the way their puppy's feet smelled! :D |
When I first got Sugar, who is our 3rd yorkie, I thought his face smelled like cucumber and honeydew. I thought it smelled so good but my husband never liked the way he smelled. It was very odd. Now neither of us notice a scent so I don't know if it went away after having him neutered or we just got used to it. Spike has terrible skin (dry, prone to allergies) and he will start to smell when he needs a bath. |
I'm a little freaked out right now reading about anal glands. As a new mommy, what should I know about this? Please tell me I don't have to do anything. Please?! |

You only have to get the vet to do it if there is a problem. Usually people say they can smell it (not very nice smell). I don't think you need to do it just for the sake of doing it if there is no problem to begin with because it may actually create a problem. I usually ask my groomer to skip that if I bring him to groom (once a year maybe) because mine is okay. If anything, I'd trust my vet with it unless the groomer has lots of experience. |

Most groomers will do this for you if you request it. Vets have to do it if you request it. My oldest daughter will even do it if she's home visiting (she's pre-med, nothing grosses her out)...but I just can't do it myself...I wish I could...but I just can't go there. |
