Afraid of water...HELP!! Penny is petrified of water. I haven't tried to bathe her yet because she is young. But if you run water and she see's it she freaks. She freaks if I wipe her face with a wet rag. I was going to try to bathe her this week end but she practically turns herself inside out. I am afraid she will hurt herself. She also bites hard during the face wiping. As far as I know she has never had a bath yet. (before I got her) |
Mine are water babies. They swim in the pool, and they get so excited when someone says the word bath. Zoey at first wasn't so happy about the baths, but the more that she had the more she began to love it. Now she jumps in for me. |
My puppy is the same! He hates water when ever I start the bath water he goes running! He goes hides under my bed and won't let me give him a bath so i have to wipe him with a wet face cloth!:aimeeyork :animal-pa :aimeeyork |
I have had the same problem with Archie! The first time I gave him a quick bath he peed over me and he was shaking so hard I thought he was getting a heart attack:eek: I think I am going to have to take him to the groomers a little more often than I thought!! |
Thanks guys. But has anyone come up with something that works so they get used to it? She fights it big time. |
I fill a basin in the kitchen sink up and only run the water to do the last rinse. If you have trouble with biting you could try a muzzle. I had to use a muzzle for chewy when he had his nails clipped because he would really try to bite hard. I told the groomer who was trimming his nails to use it. It worked like a charm. He calmed down, and just let us trim his nails!!! We only had to use it 2-3 times and then he didn't try to bite any more!:D |
Bella's not crazy about it but I fill up the bathtub that she can't get out of and obviously don't fill it very deep. But I also put a rubber ducky toy in there that she loves and tries to play with while I'm bathing her. I use a cup to get her wet and wash her off, then my hands to wash and massage her. If you do it often, they'll get used to it. There's a lot of things dogs don't like but as long as it's not harming them, you just got to do it. |
Thanks guys! I am optimistic now.:) |
It's best to get her used to the water while she's young..I got mine one day shy of 7 weeks, and gave her a bath the day I got her.. |
Both my girls hated baths when I first got them. I've been giving them weekly baths since the day they came home though, they are used to it and deal with it better now. I made sure to give them plenty of treats and now they tolerate it without shaking and even stand fairly still for me when I'm trimming them. It is something that just takes time and patience, and lots of treats and praise. |
OK, Thank you.:) |
