OK What About This "Breeder"?? Was looking at Maltese breeders in IL. Found a woman in East Moline, which is really far from me, but anyway: http://www.usfreeads.com/35944_adsbyuser.html that is a list of all the puppies she's selling 11 pages worth. some of the ads are expired, but I cant believe all the different breeds she has. What do you think? She has Lhasas, Poms, Doxies, Poodles (mini & standard), Labs, Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, Beagles, Pugs, Bichons, Min Pins blah blah blah She doesn't really have any purebreds... all mixes -- Poochans, Lhasapoos, Chipoms, etc. anyway, here's a line from her ad: we are having a buy now and beat the xmas rush puppy sale!!!!!! ??? Anyone live near her? |
sounds like a mill, Kristy. Are you planning on purchasing, or just doing research? |
Want to get a Maltese, but not from her. Just wondering if you guys think its a mill so I can look into it further and maybe DO something about it. |
I can't believe those are all from the same breeder! |
I dunno. Red flag goes up for me! I found my mom a Maltese from a breeder that lives about 30 minutes away. They are a beautiful breed of dogs. Good luck in your search, but I'd stay away from this one! |
I don't know how far you would want to travel to get a pup, but my mother bought a maltese down here (KS) and she has been a great dog. I know the breeder, but I personally have not seen her kennel, but it must be pretty good or my mother would have run the other way! |
It looked to me like a website to post your animals. Different people who had litters had posted. Sorta hard to tell as most were expired, and did not open. |
The link that I posted was to all of the for sale ads that this one person had. She has a ton of breeds and mixes of breeds for sale. |
You can betcher bippy she is.. A broker for millers is what I would say... |
You know, I feel stupid... it didn't even occur to me that she would be a broker. I forget brokers exist sometimes since I have never ever met one or read much about one (nor do I want to!) |

Her phone number is there. I would give her a call and ask her questions and see. You have nothin to lose talking on the phone, except time. :) |

on the other hand, she could be selling for someone that doesn't have a computer. |
I cannot stand thinking that there might be an actual mill in IL. I work for a lawmaker and would hope that maybe something can be done if it is a mill. |

If your looking for a malt puppy here's the link to the American Maltese Association http://www.americanmaltese.org/ There is a breeder referral page list by state. I know of several breeders on the list that breed exceptional dogs. Let me know if you need info on some of them. They tend to run high in price and sometimes female pups are hard to come by. |
Brenda - I've contacted all the AMA breeders in my region. Sorry to say, but most of them were incredibly rude (the ones that actually answered my short inquiry about their breeding program) and the ones that weren't rude didn't even address the fact that I asked for a female. I made it incredibly clear that I have a male Yorkie and want a female Maltese. In short, I've given up on the AMA. |
There is a maltese breeder here in WI about an hour and a half north of me Kristy. Actually, you may be some what familiar with where she is, she is up by the dells. I have a friend that got a pup for his girlfriend from her. I will try to get ahold of him if you want and get her info. As for the lady in East Moline, I seriously think she is a mill. |
Too many puppies for me. I'd certainly pass. |
That breeder sounds like either a puppy mill or a broker and sounds like one to avoid at all costs. You should ask on the Spoiled Maltese forum if anyone knows of breeders in your area.. they are usually really helpful about recommending breeders. I can testify to the fact that you should be extra cautious when finding a Maltese breeder. My Malt has had a lot of health problems, is larger than standard and has a very cottony coat and my sister's dog from the same breeder ended up needing a very costly Luxating Patella surgery on one of his knees. I just bought from someone in the newspaper without checking up on their reputation and I really got taken by ending up with a genetic time bomb. Don't get me wrong, I love him to pieces but his health problems are becoming very costly and it makes me sad to watch him go through all of that. Please be careful who your purchase from. |

Tonia (Rhapsody) has some adorable males available. She has a wonderful line and she is also a professional handler http://www.rhapsodymaltese.com/puppies.html Divine Maltese is expecting a litter http://www.divinemaltese.com/PuppyAvail.html Veranda has an adorable male http://www.verandamaltese.com/v_puppies.html Bill at Riverwalk is very nice, contact him and see if he sounds easier to talk with & has any pups that are pet quality http://www.riverwalkkennels.com/ You pretty much have to be form a good relationship with some of them to even get on a list but they do have beautiful dogs. As mentioned above, check out spoiledmaltese...it's a good forum and you can get info or advice from them. Maltese Only is another maltese forum, it's full of great info but the forum has "issues", it's very sensored, screened, ruled & dictated by the owner/admin whom has a napoleon complex. Most post will never make the board for various reason. Members come and go like the wind and never stay long because of the tone and rules of the admin. It has a horrible reputation but there is much to learn from it. |
