How to get rid of dark tears under eyes Rickles gets that brown gook under his eyes and it happens so fast that it is hard for me to get off and he just hates me to do it. Sometimes when he is at the vets they will get it off for me but even when he is groomed they don't get it all off. Is there some secret to it or am I just a bad mommie because he has it? I notice that in all the beautiful photos here that everyone seems to be doing a great job of keeping they dog's under eyes clean. HELP! |
Most folks take a warm wash cloth a couple times a week and clean their eyes. That helps a lot. |
Warm water (I really wet a wash cloth or cotton ball, And let it drip down his face to really wet it) Then I take a flea comb, and slowly work from the end of the hair up to get it all out. I take the flea comb and comb from the corner of his eye across his eye to really get it all. Then I take peroxicde and warm water...1/2 & 1/2 on a cotton ball. this helps with the stains. I do this every day...The build up it awful if you don't. It takes a few minutes a day, the dog is more comfortable, and the eyes look so much better...I hope this helps. |

This is a daily job if you stay on it, it gets better. But you let it go a few days then it builds up. |
Thanks, I am going to try that as soon as I get home. That sounds like it will work. |

wow...I always was told it was for the whities like the maltese. |
I bought the Angel Eyes powder, opened it but then read how it affects their liver and teeth (on puppies) and was too afraid to use it on Tiffy since she is so small. I wonder what everyone else has to say about it  |
Angel Eyes works for any dog but since it can raise ALTs and is a low grade antibiotic, I won't use it on Ellie. Ellie's vet said I could try saline or eye wash (not contact cleaner). This is for runny eyes though (just clear, not red). |

Because my Pixie is so little and the weather is pretty cold right now, i'm only bathing her about once every 2 weeks...her body keeps pretty clean..but her face needs a bit of work everyday! her eyes tend to run a bit ( causing the boogies!) and around her muzzle where her food, garden rubble lol:rolleyes: tend to stick..are the worst bits...I get a small bowl of warm water, sit her on my lap and with my fingers or a small cloth gently wet the problem areas and then gently comb through...for her eye boogies i wet the area thoroughly then gently comb/pull them out...fix her topknot then pat her dry with a towel..or in front of the fire (her fav place!) then i'll give her another quick comb through in the evening...not too much hardwork really!;) |
I switched recently to distilled water and Pixie's teai=ring and red staining has improved tremendously. |
Also, find a dog food that does not contain Beet Pulp. A maltese owner told me this and her dog had ZERO tear stains under the eyes. I know that Chicken Soup doesn't contain Beet Pulp. |

Hi, some one on YT told me to take a tooth brush - it really works well - every night I put the tooth brush under warm water and I clean his eyes and my little Logan doesn't mind at all :) all the guk goes on the tooth brush.... |

4 Attachment(s) I use distilled water also... It has helped, I also will once in a while wash Chewy's face with no more tears baby shampoo when his face is gross... (He gets a bath every week but this is for inbetween) I cut the eye hair around his eyes to keep it from poking him in the eye. The peroxide is just regular from the drug store. Dilute it half and half with warm water...Be careful not to get it in his eyes... I just use a cotton ball and wipe his eyes with it after I have cleaned and combed it. |

Oh Chewy is sooo handsome. He has a gorgeous face and what a nice color of coat he has!! |
What are you feeding though? Bc for some dogs, watery/discharge-y eyes is a result of a food allergy. So, excessive discharge may be easily solved.... |
Izzys it like this about every two days its a pink goupy crap. She is eating Royal Canin 33. I was just gonna post this same question. Just wanted to make sure this was normal. |
Hi I am trying something new put out by Petkin, Inc. It is called Gentle Eye Area Cleanser. They are wipes, and it says they wash away daily dirt and tear stains. I have been using it for a few days now on Teddy, and it really seems to help. He doesn't seem to mind it either. It also says on the container that it helps prevent eye infection. Janelles |

Just always clean their eyes every day, it is so important. Chewy's eyes get really bad if I skip one day! |
Angel eyes on our Maltese and on Chloe. |
