My new puppy Cries and barks all night long. She goes in her crate and cries for an hour then sleeps for half an hour then cries another hour. She is 8 weeks old. Is there anything I can do?? She wants held constantly.. and while I love holding her its just not possible all the time. |
is she near your bed so that she can see you? If you try putting her on a chair facing your bed, it may help her to settle in a little better. |
Yea she is right there. She chews on the door and scratches her cage. She just won't stop. I am going crazy. No one is getting any sleep. |
I would put her crate somewhere else besides the bedroom, personally. If she can see you she will just want you to hold her. Also 8 weeks old is a bit too young to be crated ALL night. My puppy stays in the laundry room with his crate open, and potty pads on the floor so he can go to the bathroom since he is too young to hold it. He still cried for the first 2 nights or so, I would expect a new puppy to cry for even the first two weeks, but if you put the crate and potty pads somewhere else at least you will get some sleep, and the puppy will get used to it sooner than you think! |
Thank you for your advice I am willing to try anything. |

We used this little toy that you heat up in the microwave and put it in the crate with her. you took the middle out and heated up for just a few seconds and then put it back in. i actually used to lay sadie on top of it and rock her for a few minutes and after she got sleepy then put her in the crate. I think they are called cuddle pals? you can get them at PetSmart or Target. She eventually out grew it but it was a life saver in the beginning. |

I use a soft side carrier and place mine on the bed and she can see us. We tell her go nightie night when she scratches the door and she will go to lay down and go to sleep. If she wakes up and scratches she needs to go to the potty pad and then take her out to go. Then put her back and do the same thing. Also does she have a soft toy in her bed to lay with? |

Another thing that helped us was to cover the crate with a blanket. I think it helps make them see it as a den, instead of a cage. |
Welcome to YT!! :) |
I used to put a softly ticking clock in the crate and then cover the crate with a blanket! They went really quiet right after that! :) |
