Boys Marking their Territory!
 

We have 4 Yorkies. Bobby was our first, then came Lily. Bobby and Lily had 3 puppies and we kept a girl, Daisy. We loved the whole experience of them breeding, and our other 2 puppies went to loving homes and we see them often. We decided to have Bobby sterilized to avoid interbreeding with Daisy, and aquired our 4th Yorkie, a male, Rasta, (we had just returned from Jamaica, hence the name!)
They all blended really well together and apart from the odd scrap over a well chewed soggy piece of hide they get on really well.
We have had a problem with finding puddles indoors, we have a dog flap fitted so there is no excuse! At first we blamed Rasta being the puppy, but its gone on for a long time now and on the few occasions we have actually caught them at it, we discovered that there are TWO culprits, Rasta and Bobby! Rasta is one now and Bobby is three. My conclusion is that there may be a battle for alpha male in progress, and they keep trying to cover the other dogs scent. Does that make sense? Has anyone else had this problem? I would hate my house to start smelling, the problem is you can't always see where they have been as the cock their legs up against furniture, doors etc.
Lily is expecting again, obviously Rasta is the Daddy,would Bobby be aware of this and be upset? We already have three puppies spoken for (if she only has one or two, someones in for a big disappointment!) She is a brilliant Mum and the vet says she is is tip top condition, I just can't wait, she has always been a "mans" dog. preferring my husbands company to mine, but last time she was pregnant and this time too, she just wants to be with me, sitting on my lap and licking my fingers! I am making the most of it, because as soon as she gives birth, she will be back on hubbys lap again!

Most un-neutered males will start marking and once it starts it is very hard to stop. It is usually worse when a female is in heat because many females mark like the males do. Many people use the belly wraps on the males to help with the house breaking or you may have to confine the males to their own area. Isn't breeding Yorkies fun!:)

No marking here yet! Bleu wears his belly band no problem at all but he is being neutered next week !

At what age do unneutered yorkie boys start marking?

I've heard lots of people like males over the females guess this is what I have always wanted to avoid. The markings and still trying to decide what to do. Seems like its really a problem with some and others do really good. Not sure the younger you work with them or what the answers are.

We've just had Andrew for one week and although he's neutered, he was immediately lifting his leg at different spots in the house. We've had a belly band on him and it seems to have stopped. We're working on training him to ring the bell and go outside like Jaxon, but in the meantime, the belly band is helping save my white carpets. ;)

Many YT'ers sell them - I would HIGHLY recommend them.

Both my boys are neutered but my shih poo still marks. For some reason he still feels the need to mark inside the house. I've had to start having him wear belly bands. It's very frustrating, I don't understand why he's doing it.
