poor dog :-( this doesnt really have anything to do with yorkies... but its something that made me pretty mad today and had to tell someone about it. i am a dog trainer at petsmart... and i was at work today. i was helping a customer with some questions about a dog they adopted today and look passed them and notice a TINY chihuahua. this day couldnt have been even a pound, but seemed to be full grown. they had this little dog on a leash and collar... which i understand is ok sometimes.... BUT they had their daughter holding the leash.. running around and yanking on the poor little dogs neck. a couple seconds later the poor little thing is throwing up. pebbles is 6 pounds and the only time pebbles is on just a leash and collar and not a harness is when we go out front to go potty every once in a while... or when im carrying her into places like the vets.. just in case... and i would never let a little kid pull her around on it. i was going to walk up to them and ask if they wanted help finding a harness for their dog, but by the time i was done with the other customer they were gone... some people arent meant to have small dogs. ugh... its my job to be pleasant and helpful to every customer in the store no matter what... but some people just need to be kicked.... (not literally) |
That is sooooo sad. :( But I'm really sorry that they were gone before you were able to "help" direct them to the harnesses. But you know the silver lining here? You work there and care about the animals. There are some people working at pet stores that don't care, let alone even know much. So I know it's probably sometimes not fun for you to work there dealing with all kinds of people. But for every 5 that you can't help, there's going to be 1 that you can. Kudos to you!! |
Poor dog. Maybe they'll be back and you'll be able to help him the next time. It reminds me of the time I saw a young couple walking a very young puppy in Petsmart. I stopped the girl to tell her how cute he was and also mentioned they should carry him because he didn't have all his shots and could catch something. She was very nice but she told me she already knew that because her last puppy died of parvo! I tried again to convince her to pick him up but she was not having any of it. They wanted him to walk. |
Ugh, that is a shame. At least you care. I hope they come around next time so you can guide them in the right direction. People really need to educate themselves better when they get a dog, especially a small dog. It's really like adding a child to a family. People really need to see it that way and take the same care and precaution... |

unfortunately we see this all the time in our store.... we have a big sign on our door that says leashed and VACCINATED pets welcomes. well we get these families that think it would be fun to walk their 6 week old puppies around on the ground. luckily...my store manager is VERY passionate about what she does and is pretty good in these type of situations. |

me and my manager talked to them for a while and told them about the adoptions we do on sunday morning and they should come look at them. they werent really sure... but sunday morning there they were bright and early. they ended up taking home a 1 year old chihuahua mix who had his front right leg amputated. they seemed to bond instantly with the little guy. its times like those that im actually proud to work at petsmart... despite some of the idiots we get in there... |
Do they have harnesses that are that small? I bought the extra small size for my little guy, he has to be at least a pound and he doesn't fit into it yet even though I tightened it as much as I can. That being said I do carry him when I go to petsmart.... |
Poor dog will end up having collapsed trachea then they will have large vet bills for their stupidity |

But when I can really help a pet parent who needed and honestly takes my help it makes me proud to say I work for Petsmart. But you tend to get alot of know it alls and it kills me some of the things they think are right. I could have the whole "teacup" conversation a million times a day but there is only so much you can say or do. The other groomers tease me and call me the "Yorkie Queen" lol |

Our pet smart also has birds flying around IN THE STORE.... I asked about it and they said they have been there for years and they just allow them to stay. They FEED them! So I walk around waiting to have one crap on my head! Don't get me wrong, I like birds but OUTSIDE would be good! |
