Buying A Yorkie Can anyone that is professionally inclined to know about yorkies, please tell me their thoughts on buying from a traders market, where you cannot see the parents? Thanks |
I'm not "professionally" inclined but it is not a good idea...any responsible breeder will want to find out about you and your home before parting with their babies, and you should be able to see the pups living conditons as well as the shape of the parents (mom and/or dad). Also not buying from a reputable breeder can lead to many and expensive problems down the road be it from bad breeding, unsanitary conditons, leaving litter to early...etc. (sickness, liver shunt, cocciddia etc..) |
Sorry, I would not buy from one of these places. You don't know anything about the place that these pups come from. YOu don't know if it is a puppy mill or if the place was clean. I went to a breeders house and had I not gone there, I would have never known that these pups were sick. Sure, they looked healthy but the diarrhea told the story well. If I were you, I'd look for a reputable breeder in your area. Sometimes it can take months to find the perfect pup for you but in the end, it will be worth the wait. Good luck in your search. |
ALL I WILL SAY IS DO NOT DO IT!!! There are many breeders here at YT and hopefully one of them will be able to advise you on what a responsible breeder is and is not from a professional perspective. |
Thank you all. I rescued one yorkie and I bought the other from a breeder. Just wanted to make sure I was right in thinking IT WAS A BAD IDEA! :) |
I lived in Texas and just want to warn you about Traders Village, Canton Trade Days (dog alley) and other area flea market/trade days. They are notorius for bringing in poorly bred dogs from mills or backyard breeders. Of course there is always the chance you may get lucky and stumble on a good one but it's not worth the gamble. If you need help finding a good reputable breeder in Texas or Oklahoma I might can help. What area are you in? |
I am in Grand Prairie, TX. Would appreciate your help. |
I will say Do not Buy a pup from a traders market. Most likely you are getting a sickly pup for a puppy mill. It is great that you are doing your research and even rescue a Yorkie. Bravo!!! |
