Selective Hearing Does anyone's else's Yorkie when you take them outside the house they totally forget all the commands and rules, like they have not been taught any tricks, commands, etc. Bailey does not seem to remember anything when he leaves the house he doesnt even know his name anymore. |
what... sorry... I couldn't hear you??? lol but really yes mine do it:D |
Lacy doesn't listen to me inside half the time so of course she doesn't listen to me outside. She's rotten... |
Jamie has selective hearing INSIDE but minds really well outside. If I say "No" inside loudly he can't hear me but if I whisper "Treat" he's RIGHT there! |

Yeah Maddie is the perfect little angel inside...always listens to me, but the minute she's outside she turns into a little monster lol |
Oh Boy!!!!! Did I hear someone say OUTSIDE??????? Yeah!!!!! :lol tears All kidding aside, the "selective hearing" is due to les than perfect training. I firmly believe that a truly well trained dog will respect his "leader" and will listen to and follow commands, no matter what distractions are present. Unfortunately, I can't claim that my dogs are "well trained", because they do have selective hearing -- I like to call it "Yorkie Ears". |

Lacy is not well-trained at all. We did a basic obedience class and she did really well when I was working with her but that didn't last very long... She's a good girl though most of the time..she's smart but very stubborn. |
My mother's girl, Maia, practises wonderful selective hearing. She likes to hide, inside or outside, but mostly outdoors. She will simply disappear, and not make a peep. She had given various members of the family heart-attacks, because we think she's missing as she just does not respond at all to our frantic calls, only to appear later, happy as can be, once we've started searching the streets. Her favourite hiding places include the bushes, under the deck (it's now been blocked off), behind the couch, under the bed, and under the dresser. |
Ahh, you gotta love the assertive Yorkie temperment! We have had dogs before (keeshonds) and I got used to playing the Alpha leader role. Even so, Zorak tries to do his own thing... then Zoe will growl at him and it is like she is saying 'listen to momma!'. Adorable! |
Bleu since his cast does not listen for squat! I deal with it for now but we will go back to training when he gets it off. I want him to have manners and mind it keeps him safe! |
:lol tears YES!!! People look at me like...why do you even bother to give commands..lol! |
And I just thought it was just that "male" selective hearing!!!!! Maybe Topper didn't learn it from hubby!!! |
Mine were like that when they were younger. About 1 1/2 they became better at listening and responding to us. They are very well behaved outside of the house now. They are 3 |
