New Yorkie Mom Hello YT, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out. I have a 10 week old male and 7 week old female Yorkie. I am having problems with them getting along. I got them at the same time but I brought the Miko (male) home first and I brought Nyla Skyy(female) home Friday. Nyla is scared and doesnt want to do anything but be held. Miko is to playful with her. How long do you think it will take for them to warm up to one another. |
Welcome to YT! Sounds like you will have your hands full when they get adjusted! I would give a couple of weeks and they should get along fine! When I brought Tessa home she spent the first week on my lap and my Border Collie\Lab (10yrs) didn't want anything to do with her! Now they are inseparable and really cute to watch! Post pictures of your furbabies when you get a chance. We LOVE pics here:D |
It probably has to do with the fact that she's only 7 weeks old...No reputable breeder would let their yorkies go at that age... Make sure you keep an eye on her for hypoglycemia. Give her frequent small meals to keep her blood glucose levels up. She's still a baby and should be with her mother, but since she can't be, just keep an eye on her to make sure she's eating. In a few weeks, they will both be playing with each other like crazy, I'm sure! :) Edited to add: Keep an eye on both of them as they are both young and many yorkies can become hypoglycemic. Keep some nutri-cal on hand or karo syrup. |
Oh wow such young babies.. Give it time.. Monitor them and make sure they are eating well. Read upon Hypoglycemia .... Welcome to Yt we are here to answer your questions! Best of luck Vicki |
Welcome to YT. Yes, 7 weeks is really young. A lot of great socialization and learning goes on with momma when the pups stay until at least 10 or 12 weeks. But you don't have this, so it's going to require some extra care and attn on your part. It may take them several weeks - but if she's anything like the girls I've had, she will soon be the boss of him! |
Thanks alot for all of your help. I do have a trainer that comes by the house, she was her about 2 weeks ago with Miko, he is doing well to I am very surprised he is comeing along well with his potty training. She comes again in a week. I started him with in-home training before taking him to the class environment around other puppies but he and Nyla will be starting the next puppy socialization class. He is getting the habit of letting me know when he has to go out, mabe because I have him on a schedule. He is very smart. Nyla we are working with her I am trying to get here on the same schedule as Miko. I have had some issues with him bitting and the training has told me it was because he has has limited socializing about other puppies. Only time will tell thought. But I will need help from some experienced Yorkie owners. Again Thanks alot everyone for your advise and help. |
puppies Most pups of that age play/ fight...they may get a bit out of control, but they have to learn to adjust to their positions in the pack...and two is a pack. Unless one is tiny and one is huge, they rarely hurt each other, it may sound like a war, but it is a part of growing up...just supervise...I have never had puppies not adjust and become family to each other... |
Hello, I have read a little about Hypoglycemia in the Yorkie Breed, I have purchased the nutri-cal and have it on hand. My Vet had advised me of this when I took Miko in for his first vist and I check there gums often make sure that not discolored or white. The vet also advised to make sure they dring alot of water. |
They do act like they are at war when they are together. I will monitor them. I take them both out of there crates throughout the day and have play time. At night before bed they are out of the crate majority of the evening. I just picked Nyla up this Friday so she is not a hyper as Miko so she is out of her crate majority of the day and night learning the house. |
my furbabies didnt get along very well when we brought a new pup home it took a couple of weeks before they got a long . welcome to YT. |
Hi and welcome to YT. Sometimes it can take a few weeks for them to get adjusted. Just don't show one more attention than the other as that can cause more problems. |
I try not to show more than the other attention and when there both awake and not napping I try and play with them together and try to get them to understand to play nicely. She sleeps alot so more of the attention is towards Miko know and when Nyla wants attention it is when everyone is sleep(ha-ha). She still has her days and nights off. |
Hi and welcome, you sure have your hands full with two precious babies. Hope they settle in together and become the best of friends in no time. |
Welcome to YT! congrats on your new puppies! :) |
