Frankenstien scar My Lana was neutered last month by the vet I have had for 1 year. I trusted them. I now want to do something real mean to them. Lana scar is 2 inches long and hard and bumpy and croocked and feels like a zipper baggie is sticking out! Her stomache looks like frankenstien!!!! I will be taking her to this vet on mon. to confront them and then a different vet to get a second opion. Is anyone elses scar bad? Im hoping its JUST a bad scar, I fear they left somehing in her. |
I don't remember that Sophie had a bad scar, it has been six years. Her tummy looks like nothing ever happened. I hope you find out what is wrong. I wonder if there is an infection. Is is warm or red? |
the hard and bumpy things you feel are most likely the sutures used to close the three layers of the abdominal cavity. They may or may not go away depending on which suture material your vet used. |
Although I have not had my yorkie spayed, I did have my lab spayed and when she healed, you couln't see the scar at all. I hope everything is ok. |
Hmmm, it sounds like Ellie's. Her vet made the spay incision and I gave her the go ahead in the middle of the surgery to do a liver biopsy. She had to lengthen the incision. Ellie's incision was 4 inches total. The top end is a bit pokey (probably sutures from underneath). The whole thing is very bumpy and one of the bumps (looked a bit different than the rest) broke open. Ellie's body is also not breaking down the internal sutures as fast as it should. Any sutures that break through the skin I will probably have to snip. I would have a vet look at Lana's but try not to worry. It has been almost 4 months and Ellie's is still lumpy. This doesn't always happen but I am just relieved the spay is over.:) |
Cali had a terrible scar as she was spayed while in heat and needed a liver biopsy and the surgeon said the larger the incision the less bleeding? Anyway after about 6 months you could not even tell where it was. |
scar I would have it checked to make sure all is well....but as a rule, the scar evens out and I can never tell any of mine had a surgery at all, might take a few more months...put some scar healing cream on it if the vet says there is no porblems with the way it has healed... |
Aww I would be like you are questioning it.. I hope you get it resolved... I hope nothing is wrong! From the sound of previous Yters experience I think she will be ok ... Hugs Vicki |
It's been years since I have had a female so I can't remember but sure do hope everything is ok with your little one. Does she seem to be in pain? |
that is odd..you can't even see maggie's scar. I would definitely ask them for an explanation. |
well,, 2 of our girls are spayed,, Crickets was laser surgery and her incision looked like a pink magic marker on her little belly when we got home only hours later,, Daisy on the other hand had normal spay surgery and a longer incision,, and had pain Cricket never had,, but still within a week she was back to normal,, her surgery was Dec.27th of 2007 and you can see the light scar,, but no lumps or bumps,, i'd question it of the vet too,, ,, but hopefully she is just like some people and scars badly,, keloid scar type,, hope all is well for her! |
Cinderella's belly looked like a mess too when she got spayed at nearly 6 months. She is turning 9 months old next month. I was a little concerned because it looked so terrible, but I trusted my vet entirely. Our vet used dissolvable stitches on the inside, and also used regular stitches on the outside. You can imagine how gross it looked. Black stitches here and there on the outside, like a patched up Raggedy Ann doll, and lumpy things all over on the inside. Coincidently, I was looking at her tummy tonight, and on the outside, it has healed up beautifully. You cannot even find the incision site. As for lumpies, well...she's still got about 2 here and there, but when I pressed on them, she didn't even nudge. I guess that's good enough for me. For Cinderella, it took months before she looked truly recovered. I'm quite sure, even at the one month mark, she still didn't look normal there. But follow your instincts. If you feel like it was a terrible job, then you have more than the right to confront your vet. I also have a male chihuahua, Gizmo. Another sweet angel from heaven :) Though he is a male, and the surgery is quite different, I do have a picture of him with his "lampshade" over his head the day after his surgery. It looked so awful, I had to take a picture to show my best friend. Was wondering if it was normal for a neuter operation to look so ugly afterwards. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the picture or not here on the forum. Maybe it will be too gross? Gizmo turned out super cute though :( It shows him struggling to chew his favorite bone even with his "lampshade" on his head. If you want, I can email you the pic. Maybe you will feel relieved and assured after. It took, looked like something out of Frankenstein. Wishing you all the best:hug: |
I don't remember how long it took for Lacy's to smooth out, but hers looked pretty bad at first too. I'm sure it will heal, smooth out, and look just fine. |
1 Attachment(s) for all my dogs the 3 that had laser cuts looked way better then the old school cuts. but all of the dogs healed nicely some faster then others though. you want to see frankenstien look at this pic. her name is lola and at 13 weeks she had a mast cell tumor removed. and he bandage is covering up even more of her stitches. |
