water - oh no! Since I'm catching up on my posts, figured I'd throw one out there about how to get your yorkie to not hate bathtime. Tobie hates getting baths, even knows what the word means and goes and hides if its said. He especially hates getting water in his eyes. I saw the pics of Layla with her in her floatie in the water and was AMAZED! Any suggestions. |
are you talking about my Layla??? in the avatar??? lets' just say she liked the floatie because it kept her OUT of the water :p she hates bathtime.. but we have a routine.. she gets a treat before the bath and a big one after.. and she knows.. if she can't just get through the bath.. she'l get a reward.. you might have to use teeny treats for him during the bath as well. Are you in a sink or tub with him??? if you are using a tub make sure the water is shallow enough that he can stand... with Layla the hardest part is her face because she too hates water in her eyes (but don't we hate that too!) so i just use a calm voice... you know the funny thing.. she hates the bath and hates pools... but when we go to the beach.. i can't keep her out of the water.. i think she likes being able to stand on the sand and walk in at her own pace... either way.. know you are not alone int he bath fights :p |
My two are both the same way...they hate baths, but LOVE going for a swim in the lake. I can't figure it out either. Maybe it has to do with smelling BAD like Lake water and GOOD like shampoo. This is going to sound terrible, but we just don't give our two a choice. The get in the tub, they get their bath, and then when we're done they can run circles around the house trying to dry off. We tried treats, but neither one of mine will eat treats in the tub. Like Marcerella02 said, we just use a calm voice, and are firm, but gentle with them, and we bathe them as quickly as possible. I think the more firm and calm you are, the more they'll relax because they know you're in charge. |
Kayah hates bathtime too:rolleyes: I have to be holding her in the shower (end up coming out of there with so many scratches on my chest it looks as if I were in a cat fight! I'm going to be giving Evie a bath for the first time (well at home.. Missy gave her a bath when she was still with her).. Hopefully she does better.. I doubt it though.. she's so squirmy.. Look at this.. It's Brooke's Tatum getting a bath (stedmansmommy): http://www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p...edium=text_url |
1 Attachment(s) Zeke HATED bath time... he wouldn't talk to me for 20min after:rolleyes: but he loved to swim:D here he is sunning:D |
How old is Tobie. I can't say mine love bath time, but they tolerate it. Lil Bit still fights me, but in time he'll learn that the fight does him no good, and that the bath isn't going to harm him. I do it in the sink, and put a big bath towel on the edge that they can rest their chin on and they tolerate the water on their heads. |
well, ,here,, i say Bath,, they look at me like "why am I being punished?" but then do well except for the face washing, then its like "please,, dont drown me!" poor babies,, but they love the zoomies after bath!!!:) |

that's so funny, because that's what I usually do with Tobie and too come out looking like I've been in a cat fight. It just seems easier somehow, but when we get to the face....OMG can he wiggle! |
awww sweet baby.. My solution get in bathtub with him .. I did that with Bleu as a baby and I have never had a problem since! He loves getting a bath and getting his hair dried by the dryer... |
I don't have a problem really with my three. Our little rescue just about falls asleep at getting bathed and blow drying. Our other little boy thinks that if he doesn't move I won't see him.LOL Saturday was bath day and he stood under the coffee table thinking Mom wouldn't see him. Their quite the characters. I'm always telling them how pretty and handsome they look when done and I think they know it.:animal-pa |
Sadie hates bath time! We have stopped doing it in the tub and are now doing it in the sink and have a much easier time with it. Someone once told me that they have a hard time judging depth in the tub. So the sink and the little spray nozzle works for us. but it takes two! One to hold and love and another to actually bathe;) |
Mia hated her bath in the sink, so I filled the tub and brought her in there with me. The bath in the tub was far less traumatic than the sink! |

Make sure you test the water with you forearm not your hand. Hands as you probably know can take much hotter water than the rest of your body. Error on the side of coolness. I bath Joey in a plastic tub inside the sink, and while at first he protested bath time now he actually seems to enjoy it and will climb in his tub after we brush his teeth. I have a small baby washcloth that I use for cleaning his face and chin. I soap up his body and close his ears with one hand while rinsing with the other. I heat his towel in microwave and he lays in that for a few minutes before blow-drying with a quiet hair dryer. Joey's breeder told me to just act very matter of fact with the whole thing and they will soon relax. After it all, he gets a treat. I just read this, oh, he's not spoiled is he? |
sophie LOVES the water, we put her in the bath tub and she swims in it. but when it comes to baths, ohh no. she despises them. but she's only 2 months so i don't really except her to love it |
