Im hurtinggg... I have Zayden in his crate and he is just barking & crying away. Its been so far 9 mins. Should I take him out or leave him in there?:( He's only 8 weeks and I dont want him to keep crying. But yet i want him to start sleeping in his crate. Also, how long should I leave him in there? |
Start at a few minutes and increase the amount of time. |
I would not personally let him cry that long.. he is too young to be away from mom and he needs you... I let them go to sleep and when they are right out of it, I then put them in their crate.. that way it is so much less stressful for them... that is one reason why 12 weeks is the best time for a person to get their baby.. mom does so much training and playing and loving them and that 4 weeks makes so much difference to them... Hope this helps... just love him and let him sleep, then transfer him.. if he wakes right away.. then not tired enough.. but keep a puppy awake playing at night until they are really tuckered out... |
i would not leave him there that long... but wait for him to STOP even for a SECOND.. then take him out for nighttime... put him in there after he out to pee and poop. if you have a hot water bottle or something.. wrap that in a towel and put it in his crate (make sure he only has enough room to lay down.. not free run of his crate) put his crate next to your bed so he can see you.. that is relaly imporant.. he is really young.. usually they go hoe at 12 weeks so he is missing his mom... he needs to see you when he is sleeping.. and let him cry... when he wakes up at night crying.. take him out to pee and then put him back in. |
he is to young, he should still be with his mommy but since he's not you need to be mommy and hug and snuggle him:D don't let him cry:( |
Oh good luck. I couldn't do it with Murfee. He has slept with me for the first night. I am such a wooss though. |
I think that if he's going to have to be in the crate, you have to have tough love. That's what he did, and we're fine now. |
If you aren't holding him You can't train him if you let him run around. Period. But there is no reason that you can't hold him at other times. But if you are busy, he needs to be in there. So many people are cleaning up their pets poop because they weren't strict about the crate training! And I am guilty of it too... so I can't exactly throw stones. But w/ puppies I am selling I am better and they are almost all trained when leaving me or w/i 2 wks of leaving me... so it does make a difference! |
:) Take an old t-shirt of yours and wear it a lot to get your smell on it. Then when it's good and smelly, put it in the crate with your puppy so it can smell you when it's bedtime or when you are away. I did this with all my other puppies and it really helped. Good luck. It's been suggested that the crate be put on your bedside table so that the puppy can see you and you can reach over, and put your fingers through the gate. I put mine in his crate and put the crate on our bed. We have a king-size bed so there was plenty of room. After I figured out what his schedule was I let him curl up with me and set my alarm for 4 hrs. (at night, that is). During the day it is: eat, piddle, play 15 min., piddle, sleep, piddle.
