New Puppy/Old Puppy Hello all, My mom just got a new puppy, 2 months old. She is gorgeous and spunky. All of the other yorkies get along with her and are curious about her; that is except my 8 month pup Riley. At first he was obviously curious and smelled her, but since then he backs away from her when she wants to play. He is not aggressive at all, which is great, but my concern is will he ever socialize and play with her? And if I choose to get a new puppy of my own for him (a playmate for my house) will he accept them? He is the dominant male of the pack; maybe this affects this behavior? Thanks in advance |
I am sure Riley will come around when your mom's puppy is a little older. It is common for young adult and older Yorkies to be leery of a small puppy. It takes time to adjust. Riley being a dominant male should not effect his getting along with a female puppy but you could have a problem with him being around other males. Has Riley been neutered? Usually neutering helps settle them down if they are showing male dominance. |
Time is the most important element here. Good luck getting them to interact |
