Murfee was only $500 and I think he is awesome. |
I agree with others - ones location can play a part in the cost of the furbaby. Also, as another said, some care more for home placement of their babies as compared to price. And factoring in bloodlines of the dam and sire will also have an impact on the price. My first yorkie was $500 in New Orleans, over 20 years ago. Gabby was $400 11 years ago for where I live now and Gage was $0 - he was given to me by someone who didn't want him but it was a blessing to get him out of that house and I would have gladly paid to have accomplished that. |
Here in mich we have them in our local paper for 400 & up. I have paid under 1000 for all mine:) So far i have not had any major medical problems, And i feel very blessed for that. |
out of my 4 i've only paid over $1000 for one and that was my biewer..my other 3 were 600-700 |
Tucker was only $800.00. The breeder's website said that her pups sold for $1000.00. But when I met her, she said she would only charge me $800.00 because she had not advertised for them yet and because she liked me and my family. Not only did she do that, but she let us pay $400.00 down and then I wrote her a post-dated check for the other $400.00 dated three months out. After four months, I had to contact her to remind her to cash it. LOL! Anyway, we have a great relationship and she babysits Tucker when we can't take him somewhere with us. So, I agree with the OP that sometimes they will give you a deal if they like you. |
I believe I paid $925 for Conner, but I also had to pay for him to fly from Oklahoma. That was $225. I would do it all over again. |
I really do think you can get a healthy yorkie for under $1g. Locally I've seen them for around $800. You may have to wait, and look and wait but they right pup will come along. |
I do not think being under $1000 is necessarily a red flag. Depends on the area and also the bredders & some are willing to make sure their babies go to loving homes rather than to make their pockets wealthy. |
I have 8...they're half and half...meaning I paid under $1000 for 4 of them and over $1000 for the other 4. The funny thing is that the 4 girls I breed were the ones that were under $1000. My 2 boys and the 2 girls that are spayed (or getting spayed) because they're too small were over $1000. Go figure! But anyways...I just think it really depends on the breeder and the quality of the dogs. Not saying that any of mine are any less quality than the others...I really think they're all similar in quality, otherwise I wouldn't be breeding them (and the 2 girls spayed or getting spayed are babies of 2 of the girls I breed). |
I totally believe that there are many people who can't afford to pay $1000+ but would make much better yorkie parents than people who could pay the $$ |

I brought Guinness' scrapbook with me and he's CKC (Continental Kennel Club) and I paid $500. He looks EXACTLY like his daddy! |

Me too.:heart to Sheilagh |
Thanks Sheilagh |
I love my dog and he cost way under $1000. I wanted a pet. The breeder was wonderful to me and to him. He's smart and healthy. His ears are down (probably go up if I was worried enough to tape) but she warned me of this and I don't much care. I know yorkies are popular (and wonderful - but that's a given, right?) but I really am not sure how it can cost thousands of dollars to buy a puppy. I'd like to see a breakdown of how much it costs ... |
I paid $450 for my Rocco. I had done a lot of research before I found him and none below or above $1000 appealed to me. Rocco's breeder was a retired couple who loved their baby girl (Rocco's mom) very much and took great care with breeding her. Her puppies were born and cared for in the house which to me meant they got a lot of "special" care. The lady was originally asking $800 for Rocco but I think she understood that I couldn't afford that but knew I would give him a great home so she offered to let me have him at a lower price. She sends me emails every now and then asking about him so that means a lot to me to. I guess you could say that the "personal touch" just goes a long way with me. |
