Attacking my hands So Memphis began the regular chewing on my fingers every now and then as puppys do but Now he is attacking my hand he thinks its a gamew with his tail wagging but i dont want him to think its ok cause well it hurts and I dont want it to become a habbit i hate to punish him for being a puppy but never had to deal with this from any other dog ive ever owned what the best way to approach this lookin for some good hints Love ya Julie And Memphis:animal-pa :aimeeyork |
You can definitely do the "Ouch" at him when he does it or do the penny in the can shake to stop him and somewhat startle him. Once you do that give him a toy to chew on to redirect his chewing. |
TY Ive been doing the redirect thing and the ouch .... but the penny in a can is good idea THANK YOU:animal-pa |

Remi loved to attack hands, especially my husband's. Now that he is over a year old he seems to be tiring of that game. One way we approach this behavior is to substitute a toy for our hands. This especially worked if he sits on our laps. The toy did the distracting work for us. The only time this did not work was when one of us was dressing Remi to go out for his walk. He was so excited he would attack our hands with his little bites and nibbles. My husband and I withdraw our hand and make an exclamation sound like "ahhhhhhh" and Remi would stop. We made this sound every time and now he lifts his legs and paws and practically dresses himself! No more biting! LOL LOL LOL Hope this helps! Memphis is just acting like a Yorkie pup! He has lots of love to express. He'll stop as you act consistently. Best regards to you and Memphis. |
Maggy was a terror at doing this and I was at my wits end. I did the penny can thing, didn't work with her, although a coffee can with nuts and bolts in it did work for my boxer when he was a pup. Maggy just thought the penny can was a play toy and wanted to bite me even more. I went out and bought a whistle and started using that. When she bites, I say no firmly ONE TIME, if that doesn't work, I blow the whislte one time very loud and short and then say, "no bite" very sternly. I've only been doing this a few days now and I'm so happy how it's worked, Maggy is like a changed lil girly! I can now hold her, play with her, give her kisses and huggles and she doesn't bite us anymore. Good luck. |
Glad to know that this is a regular thing like i said we never really dlet with that before theese are all such good ideas |
attacking my hands Tricksie loves doing that but if I say NO she quits. |
Just be sure to never allow them to sit and chew on your fingers etc as a play game. Some people do it (hubby of mine does it) and they think it's ok to do. |

My Chewy used to do that when she was a puppy....hence the name! LOL But we used to give her a chew bone of some sort and just held it for her and she would chew on that instead of our hands. She loved it when we would hold it for her. |
