Wee Sebo's getting nuetered this morning. Good Morning from Scotland, UK! My wee 9 month old Yorkie, Sebo, is off to the vet later this morning to be castrated! (as well as have a baby tooth removed that hasn't fallen out yet!) I've planned all along to have this done, and unlike some men, have no problems with the thought of the wee man getting 'them' taken out! :D It's only now, in the final countdown to the 'op', that I've become a little bit nervous about the whole procedure, and what the aftermath might bring. My fiancee is quite, in fact, very, squemish when it comes to things like this. She faints when she has to give blood or take an injection, and even refused to be in the same room when Sebo received his shots! :D I'm struggling to sleep at the moment (it's 1255am here!)I suppose I'm just after a wee bit of re-assurance, an arm round the shoulder and to be told it'll be fine and dandy! Can anyone enlighten me as to what they think of the procedure in general, and to how the aftermath was for you and your Yorkie! Thanks for your time! Bob and Sebo |
Bob all will be well. Did you get the pre-op blood work? |
I will be mentioning it to the vet this morning. I'd imagine I will have to sign some sort of disclaimer, the vet mentioned that there is a small risk with any anaesthesia, with animals or humans. I'll bring it up then! I'm sure Sebo know's whats going on, he's lying there looking up at me, giving it the puppy dog eyes' look!:D |

He knows something is going on because they are good at picking up our anxiety. |
Praying for a safe procedure, if at all possible get the pre bloodwork. |
Oh Bob here's a hug for you. I'm sure your little buddy will be fine. I'll send up a prayer for him. Oh and welcome to yt. My good friend Debra (Highlandyorkies) lives in Inverness. |
Please get bloodwork done. They should be able to run it right before surgery. All small dog surgeries should be done on a heated surface and something like Isoflurine should be used as a maintainence anesthesia. He should do just fine.:) |
Recently done! Einstein just got neutered and had the whole teeth extraction procedure about 2 weeks ago. I was pretty scared too! But it was all easier than I expected. He's not going to be allowed to drink water or eat the night before since he'll be more prone to throwing up if he does. 10:00am - dropped Einstein off at the vet 6:00pm - they started the procedures 7:30pm - I picked him up they put him on anesthetics for both the teeth removal and neutering. He had about 5 teeth removed! They also sent me home with some antibiotics. I had to keep up with giving him more antibiotics and pain relivers for about a week. The next week, he returned to the vet to get a check-up and everything was great! Oh by the way, Einstein returned to his normal crazy self after a day. You might be expecting some licking of the stitches, try putting alcohol on it before he starts to lick the stitches. It shouldn't hurt him if they used stitch-glue during the neutering too. The alcohol will stop him from licking his wounds. Best of luck to you and your little one! I hope your wife is ok too! :D :D |
An update on Sebo! Many thanks for the replies, it's great to hear some experiences of people who have been through it previously! Sebo is home, and doing great! He has a buster collar on, and it's driving him crazy, but it's for the best! It's all nice and tidy down there, with 3 stitiches, and the vet also gave us the tooth that got extracted! And some size of baby tooth it is! As I type, he's whining for me to get the slipper he's carrying in his mouth and play tug of war! On a more serious note, my other half rushed from work to the Vet to pick Sebo up, which was a bad move! Seeing her wee pup shacked up in a cage, with the sad eyes was bad enough, but when the vet showed us her handywork with the stiches, I'm afraid she had to run out of the room! Thanks again for your concern! Bob, Deborah and Sebo! |
Prayers your little guy recovers quicky. |
I'm glad to hear the procedure went smoothly! Hope you heal real fast Sebo! I am worried about getting my little boy neutered too! |

My Jambo is getting neutered tomorrow and I expect the same schedule but I figured they started in a few hours after drop off and blood test. I can't wait to get this over with. The anxiety of it all is driving me bonkers. |
Glad to hear that Sebo is doing great!! :) |
So glad to see that Sebo is home and doing well. |
