I just wanted to say that I think that your furbaby is adorable and I also think that Silkies are such sweet and cute little doggies!!!
Congrats on your new furbaby!!!

I just wanted to say that when I told my husband that I wanted another dog (we already had a boxer), I wanted a small dog that I can hold but large enough to handle our 80 pound boxer and 3 children under 7. I told him that I like the look of the Yorkie but thought they are too small. I thought a Silkie Terrier would be a better fit for our family. Well, he surprised me with a yorkie. He could not find a Silkie breeder, found a yorkie breeder who had a puppy he thought might be larger. Snickers is 9.5 lbs and under a year old, might still be growing. So anyway I think that yorkies and silkies are very much alike small, cute, and Terriers.

I said that beecause I sold Barbara this dog and I know she is not a silky and I only breed yorkies. I apologize to you and anyone else that might have a silky. As a pretty well know YORKIE breeder with many, many people on here having my babies, can you imagine the mess it would be if people thought they had purchased silkys from me when they paid me for and got the papers for a full blooded yorkie. I just talked with Hannah's mom (the lady I sold her to) and it was all aa huge misunderstanding. I told her she was silky,(Not a silky) thinking everyone knew I had silky coated yorkies and that was what I was talking about. Again, I apologize. And your congratulations on your new baby.

I'm glad it's all straightened out. ;) Since Baby is larger and has a silky coat, people ask me if she's a Silky b/c she's not a "teacup."

They used to be "Sidney Silkies" from Australia. My first Samson, the product of champeon Yorkies, grew and grew so big that many asked if he was a Silky. No matter, both are wonderful! Silkies simply give you more to love ENJOY!

Awww...What a beautiful puppy. I just can't tell the difference.

BTW, for all those that have kept up with my breeding program, Hannah is my Little Fart, that I used to post pictures of all the time. Again, I apologize to all the silky owners.

No need to apologize......You are proud of your Yorkie breeding program!

There really is a noticable difference in a yorkie and silky - when you compare a yorkie breed to standard and a silky breed to standard. I know if I was to post a picture of Magic (yorkie) next to a Frankie or Captain (silkies)....you would really notice the difference. Maybe it is easier for me since I have both........BUT they do look very, very similar when they are little puppies!!

UGH, I hate that! Why MUST people think that Yorkies are supposed to be less than 2 pounds? The standard for Yorkies is no larger than 7 lbs, for Silkies it's 9 or 10, not that big of a difference. And that's only really for show dogs, I have seen many Yorkie pets that are WAY bigger than 10 lbs! Just more to love IMO
Actually come to think of it, Quincy's dad is smaller than all of the breeder's Yorkies.

I have a Silky Terrier and a Yorki, both are beautiful pups. The Silky is a little more low key than the Yorki, which I hate to admit is a real treat at times. Enjoy your new pup, I'm sure you will love him just the same;)

What a weird situation. I contacted a breeder, actually the ONLY breeder in my area that I could find online. She told me she didn't have any Yorkies at the moment but a good friend of hers does. SO I go to his house, look at the puppies, everything is great. I just went to pick him up last night and he was saying something about the puppy being a "silky", and I thought he was just referring to his coat or something. Now it turns out that the puppy is a "silky terrier". I honestly had no idea there was a difference! I've been looking up information online today and there definitely is a difference, but oh well. They look almost the same to me, and he's still purebred and AKC registered. I guess I'm just going to be a silky person instead lol! He is so adorable, I couldn't help but fall in love with him, and so sweet too!

I'll try and add a picture too...sorry it was really hard to get a good picture of him, he didn't want to look at the camera. I guess I have to add them as attachments.

I think he is cute! Congrats on your furbaby!

I know what you mean. I had Penny at a fish store with us in our former town, and the owner said something to the effect of "Nice dog, a Silky, right?" I told him she was a Yorkie, and he said she looked too big. Then he gave me a look like I didn't know what I was talking about. That was when Penny was maybe a year old. She's now four years old and all of 6.5 pounds! Such a BIG girl!
