Did anyone watch Martha Stewart 2-7-08? The Mars/Wisdom panel people were supposed to be on yesterday? Did anyone watch? Though it seems as though there are folks convinced that this is a "mixed" dog test, I had my teapot tested and she is 100% Yorkie so it can validate a purebred dog. |
I missed it.:( I wanted to watch it because the Wisdom Panel thing fascinates me. I would like Ellie tested but am too busy paying vet bills. |
Yes, they had two dogs tested. They said it is 84% accurate. They didn't really discuss to much else though (that I remember of anyway). |
Dee, how much does it cost to have them tested? I hope they hurry and get that test here.. |
Ellie's vet said something about maybe $120. It will vary from vet to vet. |

The swab test has 38 dog breeds in its data base. The Mars/Wisdom has 150 dog breeds, I think. The test is new so it is not cheap. The vet has to order the kits/tubes from Mars and then they do the blood draw and send it in for analysis. It comes back with information about the accuracy and the breakdown of the breed/s in your dog to the vet and then to you. There is also information on the breed/s history etc. The day we had Dayzee done, we had a total of about 15 dogs tested--so it averaged about $100 a dog. The vet worked out a good "package" deal for us. |
That test is only 84% accurate (not very good in my opinion) and is not designed for purebreds. |

This is what is says in the FAQ's on their sight. Can the breed analysis test be used for purebred dogs? No, the breed analysis test is for use only on dogs that are mixed breed to help determine their breed history. Mars Veterinary will be unveiling genetic tests that are specific for purebred dogs in the future. So, are you saying their experts are wrong? Personally, it's too new and too inaccurate to take with any degree of seriousness at this time. JMHO... |
