Brand New Yorkie Mom! Finally, after 30 years I got my dream dog. Walker is a 10wk old Yorkie weighing a strapping 3 pounds. His parents are only 4 and 5 pounds each, so I'm at a loss as to how big he's going to be. Reading the last newcomers entry and doing some research it suggests that he will be around 7 pounds as an adult. Does that sound about right to you guys? I don't really care as long as he's healthy. But I have to tell you all: the 2 weeks I've had him now are pure joy! Can anybody recommend any good books on raising Yorkies? |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new baby:):aimeeyork :) |
Congratulations on finally getting a Yorkie! Vinnie is such a joy, and sometimes a monster, hehe, but I don't know how i'd live without him. I do know a great book, i have it at home and can't think of the title off the top of my head but it came with a DVD too! I will look at it tonight and let you know tomorrow! |
welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby! i am so glad you are enjoying him and spoiling him already :D as far as books go, i read a couple before i got my babies, but found the information here on YT to be much much better! and you get to ask questions and have experts answer with lots of ideas and advice! :) as far as his weight goes, if he is 3 pounds at 10 weeks, i am going to say he is going to be a "bigger" sized yorkie (more to love though!! :) ) - but who knows for sure? ;) if i had to guesstimate, i would say 8 pounds? welcome again! |
Congratulations and :welcome4:to YT! I , like you, waited to get my first Yorkie too. I worked so many hours ... for so many years and just didn't have the time ( or energy ) to adopt until I was 45 years old! Then things changed and it just seemed like the perfect time. I had her name picked out for years and when by chance I had met her ... it was  at first sight and now I have ..... FIVE! :D I think Walker will be around 7-8 lbs and I think that is such a nice size, but then again ... each yorkie is unique in their growing stage and he could slow down quite a bit too. You will just have to wait and see... ;) As for books, I have read quite a few, but the information on this site is the best. Everyone here is helpful and will go out of their way to help you find the answers you seek. Congratulations once again .... and enjoy! |

Welcome to YT and congrats on getting Walker.:aimeeyork |
Daisy was 2 lbs @12 weeks. She is now over a year old and 6.5lbs. We were told she'll be around 4lbs grown...that obviously wasnt true. It really hard for ANYONE to estimate a correct weight grown. Whatever size he becomes, I'm sure you'll love him the same! :) Welcome to YT and congrats! We wanna see pics! |
