Hey all, I'm new to this forum Hello all, My name is Kizzy. I am proud Mom to Roxy Divine. We mostly call her just Roxy along with many variations for short (Roc Roc, Rock N Roll, Rocky Road, Rox, etc..) She is a little over 1 year old, born January 14, 2007. She came to live with us on March 17, 2007. We love her dearly. We have always had big dogs, our last being a 125 lb White German Shepard named Louie. Louie died about 5 years ago. Unfortunately while we had Louie I got very sick and ended up becoming a double below-knee amputee. When Louie died and it was clear to me that it was time to get another dog, we knew I could not handle a big dog anymore. So I researched several small breeds and decided on a Yorkie! I'm so glad I did. We (my husband, me and our 2 teenaged sons) are just thrilled with her. We are having just 2 problems with her that maybe along the way here we can get suggestions from some of you. One is that she is not quite all the way housetrained. She still uses puppy pads and often has accidents of both kinds on the floor. We take her out regularly but sometimes she just won't poop outside no matter how long we're out! Anyway we're working on it. The other issue is her slightly excessive barking. She doesn't always bark but when she decides she wants to it is sometimes hard to get her to stop. Does anyone know a Yorkie who barks alot? :D So any suggestions from you on either or both of our issues will be much appreciated. We truly adore Roxy and she brings such joy and light to our daily life. I would love to get a second Yorkie sometime but talking my husband into it will be the big hurtle with that one. Anyway enough outta me. Take care and you'll see me again soon. Thanks! Kiz |
Welcome ! Glad to see you here. I have a shy pooper too i think, seems like he wont poop outside, will pee no problem. Im still trying and i think he will do it more and more. Seems youve had Rocroxroxyrocnroll a while though. I dont know if its possible to leave her outside till she does without watching her ok maybe just peeping through the window |
Welcome:D :D :D |
Welcome! Thankfully my two girls aren't barkers.....my boy, however, doesn't bark all the time, but when he does, he doesn't want to stop. I put about 10 pennies in a small coffee can (with cover on), when he won't stop barking I shake it and say quiet! it works like magic!! |
:wavey: Welcome to YT!!! I have a Roxy too ;) Have you thought about training her to use a bell to ring near the door? Several people have used the potty bell system successfully -- I'm just suggesting that since she's a yr. Did you ever crate train her? It really works |
Welcome to YT! I hope you stick around! :D |
Welcome to YT. I have found that Charlie really enjoys morning and evening walks to "do his business". He isn't a barker, but there are times when he lets me hear his voice . Sophie was a barker, and relentless in her pursuit to protect our home. She was both trained to go on pads and potty outside. However, there were accidents and both of them have left surprises. I try to remember they are "dogs" even though I consider them human. Warmly, Deborah |
Welcome!! We used to have a Yorkie named Roxie. You sound like an awesome family! Can't wait to hear your stories!! For the excessive barking, we use a water bottle. That helps "pretty well" ;) If Coby just is completely out of control, we just send him to his kennel for a few minutes "to chill". Not really a punishment (he actually still gets a treat for going in on command), just some down time for him. |
Hi and welcome, you will love it here..I am not much help with training but there are lots of knowledgeable ladies here who are. Cant wait to see pics of your little Roxie. |
Hi and welcome to the forum !!! There are a lot of great ppl and fur babies here |

Welcome to YT. |
welcome to YT! :D not sure about the potty training issue since i am going through the same thing right now with my two babies :) as far as the barking, people here on YT mentioned filling a soda can with pennies and shaking it near them and saying "NO BARK" when they are barking...it has totally turned my little bentley around...all i have to do now is just pick up the can and he stops :D ... he really hates the sound ;) good luck! |
Welcome to YT...I'm still having pt issues with Charlie, but for the barking put coins in can and shake...I've tried it and it works!:D |
