Is this fairly normal behavior?
 

Max is now almost 3 yrs old and neutered. He's completely housetrained (he's VERY good and only will go in the house if he REALLY has to go and we are asleep and don't wake up when he needs to go out which is very rare).
We were at a party last weekend and there was another male yorkie there. I know that that Yorkie is not neutered (the people for some reason don't neuter their Yorkies ....they only have one but they told me the one they lost at 14 or so yrs old had never been neutered either). Anyway......not too long after we'd gotten there, I saw THEIR dog jump off the sofa, run over to a club chair and lift his leg on it, peeing on the chair and the white carpeting (this was at a friend's house). I discreetly told the host what had happened so he could clean it up before it was totally stained, but later on, I saw a little puddle near the front of the chair, and I suspect Max of doing that, although, I never saw him do it.
Is it normal for a male who's been housebroken to 'mark his territory' when another dog has? It made me feel so bad, and I hope Max isn't picking up a bad habit! Not that he's really around other dogs inside a house, but is there anything to prevent this, or is it just a WATCH really closely type of thing when you're somewhere with other dogs?

I think it's pretty normal. Lacy and Rylie are both spayed/neutered and they still mark some. In fact, Rylie ALWAYS has to pee on top of where Lacy pees.

I have a lot of experience with male/female behavior having worked full time for almost 3 years at a rescue shelter and have pretty much seen it all. It is VERY normal for a neutered male to act out from time to time in the presence of another male, neutered or not. I wouldn't worry about your male picking up lasting habits. Dogs also will mark or piddle just out of confusion or a sudden change they are not comfortable with. I only have females, and they are not markers per say, but there have been some instances where in the presence of other dogs, male or female, they will squat and mark a little. I cannot explain it but am pretty certain it is very normal for your male to act out. I think even the most housebroken dog will let nature and hormones rule them from time to time, they are still animals.

Normal. My girls mark outside when we go on walks. And Penny's half-brother still marks. All are neutered/spayed.

Thanks guys! I just felt badly b/c I didn't even think I needed to watch for that with Max and I think he did it when I wasn't looking. I'll just have to pay attention to that if we go to someone's house that has dogs. It doesn't happen very often, but of course, it's always on a white carpet when it does:rolleyes: . I appreciate your input!

I usually take along a belly band when visiting others and it really works.
You can relax and enjoy yourself without worrying .. and so can Max. :)
