Preslee is eating Recons food....Got ???'s Preslee has relized that she is tall enough if she stands on her hind legs she can steal Recon and Memphis' food. I have a raised food dish for Recon and Memphis. She thinks she is pretty slick. Its not going to hurt her eating thier food is it?? She still eats her food too. You guys should see her. She steals a piece of food then sits in the little gap between the fridge and the wall where she thinks I cant see her. The only time she can steal the food is when the bowl is full to 3/4 full. After that she cant reach. |
What a smarty! It depends on what kind of food you feed Recon and Memphis, because I do believe there is a special formula for babies or still growing dogs, at least that's what the dog food manufacturers claim! |
I think that always happens LOL the puppy wants to ethe adult dog food. I've heard of others switching their older dogs to puppy food while the baby is in the house, then once the baby is old enough to eat adult food switch them all to adult. It worth considering, maybe you can ask your vet? |

This is exactly what chloe does. She steals my boxers food from a 12 inch raised food tray! This is why i had to give up on puppy food! She wouldnt have anythign to do with it. Funny thing is she still wont eat regular food from her own bowl. She wants to stand on tippy toes and get penny's food. :D |
Teddy is a little brat and does that same little trick. I can't say that I have noticed any noticeable affects from his occasional kibble theft. I think as long as their main source of nutrition is still coming from what they are suppose to be eating that it should be O.K. or at least no worse than the sticks, grass, leaves, dirt, etc..etc..that he tries to eat on a daily basis. |

That's what my vet recommended. The worst part was that I couldn't tell if Linus was eating his food too because Lucy was eating his! They are both on Linus's puppy food and it's a whole lot easier. |
Doesn't puppy food have more fat in it than adult food?? Just wondering cause Recon is already a tank. |
Kelly, I think you are rite puppy food has more fat. How old is Preslee? I read in one of the threads that we can switch to adult food when the pup reaches 6 months. If she is only eating a little of the adult food I think she will be fine. If she is eating to much then you might have to keep Preslee in a separate area until Menphis and Recon finish their food. Just an opinion. Maybe is a good idea to ask your vet. Good luck. |
Little Theif Piper snatches and runs. I always see him running like the wind through the kitchen, into the dining room and then he tries to hide, but the crunching noise always gives him away. I usually say his name sternly when I bust him and then he'll stop for awhile but the funny thing is that my Boxer will feed him the older dogs' food. Beowulf will take a mouthful of food and bring it into the dining room and drop it near Piper and then he'll walk away and Piper will then eat it. It's actually cute to know that Piper has his big brother trained because Beo is definitely doing it for his sake. Piper also licks all over Beo's face and inside his mouth when Beo is done eating...so cute to see. When I asked at Tuesday's vet visit I was told that it is fine if Piper is eating a few bites of the older dog food. The vet said the larger, harder kibble helps to clean his teeth, so I've been letting him go with just a bite or two. |
Whew...thanks for the info Velobabe! I was hoping that someone's vet had something in reference to the little kibble thiefs. I would have gone broke for sure changing my 2-100 pound Labs over to what Teddy eats. |
Yeah it probably works a little better for me than it would for Recon considering that Lucy only weighs 12 lbs! |

I did feed my past pet poodle puppy food until she was a year old..and she also was a small dog. ;) |
Dogs and their food! We have an older rescue dog that belongs to my son. Poor little guy, he refuses to eat if another dog is around, we have to hand carry his bowl and guard him while he eats. Needless to say, Cosie and Lida ALWAYS want what he's eating even though they have the same food in their bowl. So, while Mister Bear eats I have to pass out kibble bits to the other 2! He gets senior food and Cosie eats puppy food with Lida because she's so little. But they both will only eat the senior food if Mr. Bear wants it! |
LoL, that sounds soo cute.. id love to see photos or little preslee eating recon's food! :D |
