Traveling with puppies My dogs are 4.5 months old and 6 months old. Next month, I have a seminar to attend, and my hubby is going to go with me. So will the pups. It may be hard to get them outside as frequently as they should go, so I have piddle pads. I also have an X-pen for them. I'll take some favorite toys. The room has a refrigerator and a microwave, so there won't be any problems with their food. I'll take bottled water. They have a bed that they fall into after they play, but they sleep in separate crates at night. And that's my question: Should I take their crates, or just let them sleep in the bed at night, confined to the X-pen with a piddle pad? They are both SO good about using their crate at night (or any time we're in the bedroom); I don't want to have them develop bad habits and suddenly decide they don't want to use them any more. By the same token, I really don't want to have to haul any more up to the room than I have to. My hubby's disabled and I already have his scooter to contend with, so anything extra I can cut down would be wonderful - but not if it will let the pups develop bad habits  . What say you travellers? We'll be driving to the site ... |
I think you should keep things as normal as possible. Take their crates if that is what they are use to. It will make it a lot easier on everyone and you'll get some sleep. If you let them sleep on the beds with you, you'll worry about them falling, or peeing on the bed :eek:and not get very much sleep. |
   I meant their daybed, the one they sleep in out in the living room. I could put it in the X-pen at the hotel. I couldn't - *wouldn't* let them sleep in a human's bed yet ... they can't be trusted. And the fool's are FEARLESS! They'd jump off in a tick-tock, which would *not* be a good thing. I wish someone could explain to me why little dogs don't know they're little ... they think they can do all the things the BIG dawgs do  ;) |
I travel often and Lucy has a soft sided crate that I travel with that is nylon and folds flat so it is like adding a shirt to my luggage. I like it because it serves both as a crate (which hers is always open, never closed) and her bed. It makes her feel secure in new places. Happy travels :) |
