biting and toilet training hi , i have a beautiful dog macca pacca who is very intelligent in the short time we have had him he has already learned to sit, stay, fetch and when i put food down for him he will sit in front of it till i say he can eat it ! he is an absolute joy he has so much energy and is also very good on a lead ! my only worry is his biting and toilet training . he tends to bite our hands an feet alot i have tried to tell him no in a firm manor but he just bites us somewhere else , at first i thought he was just wanting to let out some stored energy so now i take him for 3 walks a day and play with him when i get in from work but the biting is still happening. also we are using puppy training pads to train him and when we catch him we tell him no and take him to the pad but he doesnt seem to be understanding it . if anyone has any advice on these two it would be a great help . |
hi welcome to YT! sounds like your puppy is quite smart with learning tricks so he should get the potty training thing soon. Does he go outside as well as inside on pads? maybe he is confused. i only trained mine to go outside so i don't have any pee pad advise. to stop him from biting you can try replacing your hand/feet/whatever with a toy to chew on. when he bites you tell him no and give him something else. Or many people have had success with this other method. Whenever he puts his mouth on you yelp really loud like it hurt you. Pups will play bite with each other but when one yelps the other will stop biting. if you do it every time he puts his mouth on you no matter how hard he bites he will think that we humans have very sensitive skin and can't take any amount of biting with it not hurting. |
Welcome to YT! When my 2 were little and biting my hands, I wrapped my fingers GENTLY around their nose and said "No bite". You have to be consistent, but it worked with both of them. Mine use pee pee pads inside and are taken outside several times each day. I bought a spray to use on the pads inside that draws them to it. They seldom have accidents inside anymore. Good luck. |
Welcome to yt. Sounds like you are doing a great job. He will get it in awhile. Good luck |
thankyou very much for the advice i will definatly try some of those , he is already getting better with going outside so hopefully its just a matter of time . :) :animal-pa |

What's the name of that spray? I'm looking for one! my furbaby has the same problem, well so far he does it mostly on the peepad, but I caught him doing it in other spots as well, I figure if I spray the area it might help? |
