nylabones are these safe? I bought one of the small ones today at petsmart but i'm scared to give it to Gizzie until you guys say its safe,:D I spoke with an associate and she said they are much safer than the rawhides and greenies and shouldnt cause a safety issue |
I give my two power chewers regular nylabones. They can't chew or break off pieces-it's more like they rub them down with their teeth. IMO they are safe. Now, the healthy edibles can be broken/chewed apart, and my two will eat a WHOLE one if I let them, so I don't buy those. |

I purchased the white one and the translucent "puppy" bone. They seem to prefer the puppy bone; it has more "give" to it. They knaw on the white one, too. It gets really fun when they both want the same bone at the same time, and play tug o'war with it. I think Nylabones are just fine. |

the rubbery puppy one breaks off, belle chewed right through it, i havent tried the harder ones... but i wouldnt give her those rubbery ones anymore, i'm afraid she'll choke on the pieces |

i gave Chewy Nlabones when she was teething. she did great with them but shes too smart now and will only chew something if its edible. lol |
Archie has been getting the blue nubby nylabone since puppyhood and hasn't had a problem with them in two years. HOWEVER, he does tend to destroy them pretty quickly, so I buy them in bulk so that when they begin to be really chewed up (that's when bigger pieces tend to break off), I replace with a fresh one. I search the intranet pet sites for the best prices for them (they seem to fluctuate on sale), so I never run out. Oh -- I want to add that his vet is amazed at how great his teeth look -- he won't tolerate me brushing them and this seems to do the trick as he chews on the bone several times a day. |
some people say they're perfectly safe.. while others say NO.. that they supposedly splinter.. Kayah wants nothing to do with them anyway.. so she doesn't get them:p |
I don't care for Nylabones at all, they can splinter off and cause troubles. I don't like greenies. The only rawhides we allow are the ones that are too big for my teething puppies to chew any pieces off of and they are monitored closely when they get to chew on them. I suggest a real beef bone from the butcher. |
Nylabones are made of nylon. Nylon comes from the family of synthetic polymer which can be considered plastic. It is a thermoplastic material. See Wikipedia. So Ellie doesn't get them...:) |

ALL toys and chewies should be regularly monitored to ensure that they're not being destroyed. Once they show signs of "wear and tear", they should be removed and replaced with something new. |

thanks for the warning... bully sticks are my favorites by far for belle to chew on...and it keeps her busy for quite a while... does anyone know if "pork-hide" is good for them? i know rawhide is not digestible, so she doesnt get that anymore, but what about pork-hide? |

I can't recommend any bones. They all have their problems. Before you choose a bone type the name of the product into google followed by the word death or obstruction or damage. Some bones (like bully sticks) will have less complaints (but I still don't really recommend them). |
The only chew bone or toy I allow Buddy to have is a natural bone. They can be purchased in any pet store and are in a bin by all the other chews like pig ears, raw hide etc. They, I believe are beef bones. Get one that fits into your babies mouth. Most are large but they do have small ones as well. They are already cleaned by being boiled and dried by the manufacturer. Buddy still is a chewer and chews dents in these bones. They are safe and nothing comes off. Good luck. |
