Why Do They Smell Each Others Tooshie? Every time Belle & Ariel meets a new dog, they immediately go to the dog's behind and give it a sniff. Heck, every morning, they smell each other's behind. Is there a particular reason why dogs do this? |
There is a sent that they give off back there, I am not exactally sure how to explain it but there is a reason they do it. Its kinda learning who they are by there sent. |
I always just say that's how they check to see if the new dog is a boy or a girl :) Also, I heard that it helps them know where the other dog has been, it tells them what the other dog has eaten, and it helps them identify if they "know" the other dog's scent from their walks (when they mark). |
As far as I know, it is how the dogs communicate with each other. All dogs have anal sacs back there and it is their personal scent. When they smell the scent, they know who the dog is and if it is friend or foe, male or female, alpha or submissive. |
