Introducing Myself 4 Attachment(s) Hello...I joined Yorkie Talk a few days ago and have already become hooked! I've learned so much in the short time I've been here. Where to begin? Let's see... For the past several years I had wanted a Yorkie, but was leary of the responsibilities. Hubby kept telling me that if I wanted one, to get one. I put it off thinking that there would be a better time. Then one day, my oldest daughter showed up with this poor little thing that she thought was a Yorkie. He was eaten up with fleas, had sores on his belly from the bites and basically looked pretty bad. He was found by a farmer in his cornfield near a river bottom. The farmer kept him for two weeks but never found the owners. I thought, this doesn't look like any Yorkie I've ever seen, but there was no way I was turning him down. I took him in and gave him a bath, got flea and tick meds for him and fell in love. We named him Peanut. We think he was about 1.5 yrs old. His teeth were beautiful white and he was so spunky! He ran like a deer. He loved other dogs and played with our 85 pound dog and held his own. Of course our bigger dog Misty was very gentle with him. Peanut weighed 4.5 lbs when he came to us and 5 lbs when he left us. We ALL fell in love with Peanut. He knew several tricks, he went with me everywhere I went that I could take him. Even my extended family loved Peanut. Sadly on Jan. 2 I took Peanut out to potty, he bolted and ran. Long story short, he was hit by a car and died instantly. My heart was broken and still is. I loved that little dog so much. Of course I can tell from all the posts here that I don't have to explain that to you. As it turns out, I think Peanut was "mostly" Yorkie, but definetly not pure bred. It didn't matter. He was the absolute most adorable little guy. So now I've put a deposit down on a little girl Yorkie that was born on Jan. 25! I've already named her Abigail Grace. We'll call her Abby. She cannot take Peanut's place in our heart, but I never want to be without a Yorkie again. I'm home all day and will be able to spend a lot of time with her and my husband is a retriever handler and trainer and an all 'round animal lover, so I'll have lots of help with potty training etc.. I need to scan some pictures of Peanut so you all can see my little boy. BTW, here are the only pictures I have of one of the puppies from the litter that Abby is in. I get first pick of the girls. There were 4 girls and 1 boy in the litter. Beau is the Sire and Tootsie is the Dam.... What do you all think? |
i am sooo sorry to hear about peanut...its hard losing a pet me and my brother had lost a dog a few yrs back by gettin hit by a car also...its the hardest thing...i think what ur doing is great..abby will never replace him but she will be a big comfort to u...good luck |
Welcome to YT and sorry to hear about the loss or your peanut. I look forward to seeing pics of you new baby. |
Thank You :) Can any tell me what you think of the parents? Also, when I go to look at the puppies, what should I be looking for? I'm not particularly interested in the tiniest baby I can get. Actually the bigger the better as far as I'm concerned. (within reason of course) The Mama is 10 lbs and the Daddy is 3.5. The breeder is guessing them all to be around 4 lbs full grown. I have no intentions of ever breeding my new little girl. I only want a pet/family member. |
Welcome to yt. I am so sorry for your loss. Congrats on getting your new Abigail Grace...I almost said Abigail Rose...that is the name of my little donkey:D |
Sorry to hear about Peanut I know how much it must hurt you. So glad you are getting another Yorkie they are wonderful:D Can't wait to see pictures as Abby grows;) |
Welcome to YT. I'm sorry you lost your little fur-boy in such a tragic way. I lost my 16 year old Chihuahua in Sept. and am sill hurting. We had her since she was three months old. As for how big your new girl will be, well given the size of the mom and dad, my guess would be this. She could take after the mom and be 10 pounds, take after the dad and be 3 1/2 pounds or somewhere in between. You may know more about her size when she's about 8 weeks old. Make sure she stays with her mom till she's at least 12 weeks old. Here is a chart that may help you later on. http://www.yorkiepassion.com/growthchart.htm |

Thank You and I'm sorry for your loss as well. The chart was right on the money with what the breeder said she would be. 4 lbs. As I said, size doesn't really matter to me. I would like one that has similar coloring to Peanut. The grandfather and greatgrandfather to these pups were both very small. I've seen pictures of 3 or 4 generations leading up to these puppies :) |
So very sorry for the loss of your sweet furbaby. How blessed was he to have had your love and you to know him. I am so paranoid about my 2 running away that even in the backyard I take them out on leash, we have a fence, yeap paranoid. I do let them off the leash, after I check to make sure the gates are locked and I stay with them or can see them from the window. Your new baby looks precious, can't wait to hear she is home with you. |
so sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is to love a furry one & have them taken from you. So glad you have found YT. It will be fun to see your little girl grow. |
Welcome to YT. I am so sorry about the loss of your furbaby. |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your pending addition. I'm so sorry to hear about Peanut... |

I have become paranoid and Abby isn't even home yet! I've been reading, bookmarking, taking notes and hoping that everything will go fine. My husband and son are fencing in a very large portion of our backyard so when I take little Abby out to play or potty, she'll have room to move about. She will ALWAYS be on a leash when she's not confined by the fence. Peanut always wanted to run and run he could! My that boy could run fast. I'm not taking any chances on another baby getting hurt or our hearts getting broken like that again. Any recommendations on a good car seat or car restraint for Abby? Peanut liked to ride on my lap or in the back window. I'm not starting that habit with Abby. Hubby doesn't care for the looks of the Sire. I know though that when we go to see the pups in a couple weeks, we'll fall in love and find our perfect little girl. Later on, we'd like to add a little boy Yorkie. Maybe in a year or so. |
im addicted to the site petedge.com they have everything at reasonable prices they have car seats also...im going to get one cause martini loves sitting on my llap but sometimes its hard to drive with her on it...so check that site out |
