Question for those who have Two Hi everyone I have a lil issue here... Tyson was six months on Tuesday the 12 July and I am looking to get another one I already made my deposit. Problem is that my family is telling me I shouldn't because he is too young and they feel i won't be able to give the the same attention and love I do now. Do ya'll really think its too soon ? should i wait until he is one year old? please help i asked the breeder to give me until friday. Thanks in advance. T&T a.k.a. Tanya and Tyson! |
Two are great together but how young is the new one? Only you know if you will have the time for a second one. I do like yorkies in pairs though. |
she will be 2 months when she comes home I think i can handle is but i also don't want to niglet Tyson. |
I have a 6 month old and a 5 month old. I got them at 2 and 3 months old. They have kinda grown up together. I am able to give time to them both. You have a better age span I think. I would say go for it. |
Having 2 is just a lot more to love. I had the same concern as you before I got my second and all I can say is - not only am I more happy - but my Codie is so much more happy to have a friend. I think it's a great idea. |
Decisions Decisions what do i do? |
I was so ready to get another one. I really want and am looking for my red yorkie. But have yet to find one around here. Maybe that's a good thing at this time. I have my neice here with me. Her mommy got herself into a bit of trouble with the law and we are looking 3 years,,, 1 and half is what she's more then likely have to do. My nice is only 2 and will be 3 in Oct. She came to us in March and we are really trying to get the potty thing down. Man I thought it was though housebreaking Gus,,,, this little girl is just not getting it. I am ready to pull my hair out. I'm trying not to stress and she's been through so much already. And if wasn't for her worthless father who has nver really been there is trying to be a daddy now and has been on me about it. I don't want any trouble with him trying to take her from me. I have custody and I really don't want to fight him in court went we both know he can't care for her. So we are pushing the potty thing big time now. So untill she's trained I don't want to have to worry about a new puppy and her being potty trained. But yes,,,,, when the time is right,,, I just might have to wait till her mother gets out and but that's ok. I can wait. I will be getting my red Yorkie!!!!!! |
no expert here, but we have two My wife knows a lot more about dogs in general, and she's had some observations about our two. We had Zeke for over a year before we got Chelsey, and although they get along fine, it's not too hard to tell Zeke mostly tolerates Chelsey. My wife believes, and probably rightly, that all the attention Zeke got in that year went to convince him he had a certain position in the "pacK"...(and always think "pack mentality" when dealing with dogs.) They are not thrilled to have another come in and draw off attention. They do not see things the way we do... "Look" we say, "aren't you overjoyed to have a little sister?" Not really. Status and rank in the pack are the rule, and most dogs do not take too well to sharing it. So, although we have no regrets, like I said, they get along fine, and we dearly love them both...but it really does seem the closer they grow up together, the better off both will be. I am sure there are many exceptions to this, but as you know already having one Yorkie, they are attention seekers. Some dogs are more independent, less likely to suffer being left alone...but Yorkies!...they would live in our laps if they could find a way to overcome gravity while we walked around. All this being said, I know even our Zeke does much better having his lil sibling (not true littermates) around, despite those times when he jumps off the bed and sulks underneath as she comes to lay up on the pillows that were once his sole domain. |
My 2 are only 5 months difference in age and I got them both around 3-4 months old and I'm so glad that I did because they are the best of friends and neither is neglected believe me! |
I totally agree with everyone - Two is double the fun...When we got Cheri ...My Chanel had her nose a little bent out of shape but once she realized Cheri is a moving talking sqeaky toy - she came around and now they're BEST friends and you don't see them ever apart...Go for it - |
I agree - 2 is double the fun and love! BUT - wait till your first dog is fully trained in every way - my first was close to 1 year old when she was done. The reason for this is that the older dog will help you train the new dog. Also if they are both pups they will fous more on each other than on you. So that is 2 good reasons to wait! |
We got Griffin when Bentley was 6 months old and it is the best decision we ever made! They are best buds and have helped each other's separation anxiety while we are gone. |
Our 2 are 3 months apart and are best buddies, they went thru "who's the boss" yet neather has figured out who is boss on what day..potty training was easy because the first helped the second..ours are male and feamle maybe that helps..2 are twice the fun as one |
You all are very helpful thanks so much I think at this point i am going through with it. Tyson is fully trained as far as potty goes. as for the attention at this moment I have the luck and blessing from God to be working from home so I guess i will be able to train her as well. what's the worst that can happen???? My sister is the one who planted this doubt in me but i guess its like my mom and brothers say she is jealous since she owns a pee pot, pampers wearing, cocker spaniel and a over weight lab hump! my lil guy ihas been trained since he was four months. I am sorry for flying off the handle but she makes me mad as hell. |
Most people that have Yorkies have more than one. These 2 pups are so close in age they will have the same amount of energy and be able to grow up together. Make sure you do spend some alone time with your new puppy or he will turn into your other puppy's "Pet". |
