Boarding for 10 days? I need some advice about about long-term boarding. I am getting married in April in Saint Lucia, and we're going to be gone for 10 days. We don't really have any family or friends here, because we're not from here and haven't lived here long. I know being boarded for 10 days can't be fun for little guy, but I don't see any other options. Do you think this is such a bad thing? |

I personally have never boarded Ellie and hopefully never will have to. She stays with people I know. That is the only way I am even semi-comfortable. If I had to board in an emergency, I would hope it would be just for a day. If you absolutely have to do this make sure you are very comfortable with the facility you choose. Neglect and abuse are not unheard of. There was even a report of abuse at a PetSmart Hotel... I would get to know the owner and workers and ask lots of questions. Is there someone there all night with them? Do they get played with? How many times a day are they let out (I don't think three is enough but seems standard...I would insist on at least five potty trips a day). Do they let the big dogs and small dogs play together (I wouldn't like that)? What vaccines do they require (if they require lepto and it isn't prevalant in your area I would not use them...)? |
St. Lucia! We had our honeymoon there and absolutely LOVED it. Are you getting married at a Sandals? I have boarded my Jack Russell Terrier fo 10 days and he did very well. If you could find a boarder that you really like and trust, you may feel more comfortable about leaving your dog. Does your vet board? |
I agree. That is a long time. We have a really nice doggie daycare here that does boarding too. The boarder dogs get to do all the activities at the daycare, so it's not like they are in the kennel the whole time and only let out to potty. In fact, one of my friends board her dogs there, and they just play themselves exhausted when they go there, they have a ball! That said, another idea is if you have someone at work that loves dogs and could care for your pup, or has an older teenager or college student that would housesit/dogsit. My 20 year old daughter does this for a couple that travel frequently. She loves getting away and feeling a little independent, and the dogs don't get uprooted from their home. It's a win-win! |
Maybe see if another YT member lives close to you, and you could see if they would watch him. Maybe worth a try.;) |
I have boarded my large dog for 9 days with no problem but i did a lot of research before I left him, I have never left my lily that long. |
Congrats on your upcoming wedding!! Maybe there is a yt member who lives near you that maybe able to help you??:D At least you would feel better knowing your baby is being well taken car of!! and its a little more comforting over a boarding place!! Heck if I lived near you I would do it in a heart beat |
