Samantha banned from Grandma's house? My granddaughter, Brianna, and her Yorkie, Samantha, spent the night with me last night. Samantha is a year old now and has no manners! She isn't potty trained, won't come when called, play bites on fingers, and barks at my little rescue Chihuahua, Kozanna. She is sweet and I don't mind having her at my house, but she really causes problems. She sleeps with Brianna at home, but wouldn't stay with Brianna last night. She was up about 1:00 a.m., barking and whining. I went and got her and took her to bed with me and Lacy and Cosmo, my Bichons. My rescue Chi sleeps in her crate. Samantha wouldn't settle down, kept walking all over me and Lacy and Cosmo, getting lots of growls and being told to be quiet and go to sleep. She was on and off the bed, into the kitchen where she got Kozanna started whining and howling, wouldn't come to me, and was just a royal pain in the backside. She has spent the night before and went to bed and slept fine. Maybe she was unsettled because of the new puppy? I have to say I'm disappointed in the lack of discipline my son and his family have given Samantha. My son and daughter-in-law both work and Brianna goes to school, of course, so Sammy is alone all day. Then there are lots of other activities going on, so she does spend a lot of time alone. I wish they had gotten a kitten instead of a puppy. I am not with Sammy often enough to make any difference in her manners. I think Sammy will be banned from coming to my house to stay over night. She can come to visit and play, but not stay over night. |
What a difficult situation, i'm sorry you had such a time with it maybe she can get one more chance at spending then night? Could it be possible that she was out of sorts and will be acting ok to spend the night next time? |
Man that is a tough situation because it seems the dog needs ATTENTION, which also can mean rules, guidlines and discipline. I can't blaim you though, I'd probably feel the same. |
yeah that really truly is a tough situation. Oliver my yorkie was very very difficult to train. He never wanted to listen and would constantly go to the bathroom on the floor. He has his own mind a lot of the time and refuses to come when he does not want to, it is the same with sitting. I truly believe it is a Yorkie thing and that Yorkies for some reason or another need a little bit of extra attention as far as training goes. Maybe you could talk to your son and ask him to spend a little more time training little Samantha so that she will be more well behaved at your house. |
I had to giggle a bit My Allie could be Sam...lol And we have tried EVERYTHING with her. She just does her own thing. Then when corrected she rolls allllllll over the floor until her hair stands up on end....then looks at us like a crazy person. She just dont get it... (I think she thinks WE just dont get it:p ) |
Well, it isn't a horribly bad thing and I've had puppies around a lot, but I will probably not let Sammy come and spend the night again. She can come and visit and play, but not spend the night. I think she pretty much acts the same way at home. She's sweet and we love her, but she needs some discipline. My son and his family know that, it's just hard for them. Young families are so busy. I remember well! |

Is it possible that you can do day care for Sammy and help out with the training? |

I have thought of that and have jokingly told my son that Sammy needs to spend some time with me to learn some manners. I may offer seriously to take her either during the day or just keep her for a while. I have my little rescue Chihuahua now though and Sammy barks and barks at her, so I will have to think some more about it. This is a picture I took of Sammy this morning with her favorite squeaky toy. |

Good Idea |
I bet that could be a really good dog. They just need to take her to training or possible the adults need the training. Seems like the yorkies will get away with anything if they are allowed to. Young families I think sometimes don't have what it takess to be dedicated to training dogs. My son and his family have busy lives and then they expect to bring a small dog in with 2 small children and not train everyone. Its too hard and they need to do things as they can in life. Its not all about having it all right now. We had to learn to work for what we wanted. Not spoiled and have it all and then wonder how things got in that manner. Guess the Bichon is the smartest one. The dog knows not to cross her. |
