The great outdoors belongs to HER!
 
The last few days the weather has been a bit warmer :rolleyes: - in the upper 20s, after being below 0 for a number of days - and last weekend it was warm enough to melt our 8-9 inches of snow -- so I'm sure the ground feels warmer outside.

Roxy always loves the outdoors, but now she only wants to be outside by herself. She has barked in Bubba's face the last 2 days when he goes out with her. Today she even growled at him :eek: -- Bubba is so mild manner, he just ignores her. But she wasn't happy. She leaves him alone after a few seconds, but you can just tell she wants him to go back inside, so she can have the yard to HERSELF!

Today it's going to get to 35 & it's sunny, she wants to be out there :rolleyes:

I know she hates to have him out there if there are squirrels around -- Roxy is a true hunter, she watches, waits & only chases when she really thinks she can catch them :p -- Bubba barks & chases the squirrels as soon as he sees them -- so I know that's at least one of her issues.

Does anyone else have a problem like this??? How do you handle it??

I don't want to her behavior getting worse - I do tell her to stop

I dont know how to help you with your problem. Both of mine yap at the squirrels also. It is finally going to get warmer here also and I know mine will be loving going outside

I've dealt with this since adding Abigail to our family. My senior, Mozart, is three times her size, and she literally bullies him, at times. He could just squash her, but he's too much of a gentleman to take her in hand at all. I used to scold Abigail, because I was 1) feeling sorry for Mo! and 2) afraid that he would eventually get enough and bite her badly. Time has proven that he's either too tired to assert himself (he's 13), or he's afraid of her! LOL Anyway, it seems to be a pack thing. It will be up to Bubba to either assert himself, or relinquish the alpha position to her.

Oh, Bubba has always let her be in control :rolleyes: -- Roxy is definitely the alpha dog. They are 6 yrs old, I adopted them almost 5 yrs ago -- they have been together since they were a few mths old. Their original owner said Roxy told Bubba off within a day of her arrival - he was there for about 2 weeks, before she arrived, and he was bigger than her -- but at that point he gave over to her :confused:

But I have never seen her act like this before -- but lately she has been a bit growly -- she is 3lbs 4 oz - she does a good job protecting herself. If she's laying under the blanket next to me, she'll growl when Bubba or my Siamese is approaching, not sure if this is to say, "I'm under here don't jump on me" or if it is to say "go away, I want my mom to myself."

Abigail is in obedience class, and I brought this up to the trainer. When Abigail is in my lap, she doesn't want any testosterone in the room. LOL She warns with threatening growls if Mo or hubby come into the room. And if I'm asleep....forget it! For some reason, she thinks I need protecting, if I'm asleep. The trainer said definitely not to let this behavior continue. When she growls at Mo or hubby, I am to calmly put her down on the floor (no fanfare or scolding - just matter of fact), and invite hubby or Mo to sit beside me. THEN, she can be invited back, as third in the pack. We've been doing this corrective behavior for a few weeks now, and she always calms down at the time. But....seems to forget the next time! *sigh*

What great advice - I'll do that next time! Especially, when she does her other little growl. If I'm sitting on the couch having a snack, she growls at anyone else who wants to sit by me, liek they might take my food :rolleyes:
