dry skin?? Eye infection???? Ok I bathe Cody once a week and today while brushing him I noticed white flakes in his hair, more towards his back. I panicked at first because I have read that lice look like flakes. But as I examined further I can see that his skin is dry at this area. My question is how can I help him? Is it a shampoo issue? Also I hate the eye boogies that he gets, I constantly have to clean his eyes and it's gunk what I remove, not green, but still gross. So I comb out his face but it is scary because I dont want to poke him in the eyes with the comb. Advice anyone? |

So how do I keep the hair out of his eyes, should I cut it? Quote:

If you want too, I pull Parkers hair up in a pony, and when I wash his face I try and brush it out of his eyes! But a lot of people keep the face shaved and cut short it depends on if you want to have a longer coat or a short one. |
Hi there! I cut the hair around chewy's eyes. It took a LONG time for him to trust me and he moved all over the place. I would have to cut a little bit every day! If you chose to do this you want to get rounded scissors. You don't want anything sharp near his eye. If not there is hair gel that I have heard you can use. I was thinking about ordering this myself. I'll find the link and send it to you. :D Here's a pics of Chewy's & Sadie's face so you can see their eyes. The first one is of Sadie when we first got her before I cut the hair... I only cut a tiny bit and it made a big difference. Compare with her second pic.;) |
Ooops 4 Attachment(s) I'll try again. |

The hair will quit poking in his eyes once it grows out a little bit. Once you cut it you have to continue to keep it trimmed. A flea comb works great to remove the eye boogies once they have been softened up with warm water. I like to bath mine once a week also. They get so stinky by the end of just one week that I can't imagine waiting another week. I love to snuggle them after they have had a bath. I found using a conditioner helped with the dry skin (my jack russell mix was getting this) and also use a gentle dog shampoo. |
Not sure what you're using for shampoo - but we've had some problems this yr too. I would recommend an oatmeal shampoo. I just posted this on someone else's thread that is having problems  Bubba was having problems earlier this year & I posted a thread & another member posted amazing pix of her dog - you can see them here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=104481 what she used & was recommended by her vet was NuSalTshampoo and Relief Creme Rinse (which I know vetamerica.com sells & maybe Petsmart) -- the results she had were impressive. I wanted to buy this, but was in a rush & instead bought locally some Tropiclean Oxy Oatmeal Shampoo & Oxy Med Treatment Rinse http://www.tropiclean.net/tropiclean_index.html - we have good results with this, but I still want to try the NusalT I would also recommend adding something with fish oil & vitamin E to his food - a product a lot of people use is Eicosaderm - you can get that from vetamerica.com -- I'm waiting for some to arrive, because although Bubba's skin has improved with the oatmeal shampoo, I think this might give us the boast we're looking for. You can use the search option for: Eicosaderm & read what others have to say about the product. |
