Is This True I Had At One Time Emailed A Lady About Getting A Female And She Sent Me A Picture And I Told Her Now I Was Not Interested Because I Wanted Her More In A Color Scheme Of Bleu .....my Question Is As A Female Yorkie Gets Older Do They Get Lighter! This Lady Said Famle Yorkies Especailly After Having Babies The Color Gets Realllllllllll Light! She Also Said The Older They Are Their Color Gets Real Light! Thanks |
Yorkies come in all shades of blue and gold and buying one as a pet is really a personal preference of what color you prefer. However, for show the standard is a dark steel blue and a rich tan...so a darker colored dog. Yes, unspayed females will lighten up some as they age...as do all yorkies somewhat as they age. However, I doubt a correctly colored dog would lighten drastically (but someone correct me if I'm wrong). |
I honestly don't know...but I do know that my Max is very dark (well, he's almost the same as he was when he was a puppy...like they all are...only he's gotten some silver..or 'blue") and I can't see that he's lightened up much at all to speak of. He's almost 3 (next month) and his sister is a lot lighter than he is, but still not blonde like I've seen a lot of other babies here are. I just know that when we first got Max and just thought he was so cute, and we hoped he'd stay exactly the colors he was (and we got our wish pretty much), but I have to say that if he'd turned yellow and green, we would have loved him just the same (obviously, we're not interested in breeding, LOL). I am interested in other answers though, so I'm so glad you posted this! And we're keeping Bleu in our prayers, the little angel boy:) . |
I have heard that from more than one breeder. |
Pups color change 2 Attachment(s) Mya lighted up a little which was a surprise because I was told to look at her roots, the breeder said she would silver, she only got silver on the top her head. So I was happy she stayed blue and tan. |

yes, I would have to say that is true. That is one reason many show breeders suggest starting with a male to show. Most females that have the true silky steel blue coat get lighter each year and turn more of a silvery blue. Females with a cottony coat that are black as young adults usually turn to a dark clerical gray as they age. Many peope confuse this dark grey with steel blue. Even the male Yorkies get light as they age but not a rapidly as the females do. |
It depends on the pup. Not all people in my family are gray or bald, but some are O.o .... Mogli lightened up over the years, he got more gray. When his hair would grow long, you couldn't see it so well, but after a trip to the groomers he was noticeably lighter! Wicket just got gray faced as he got older ... body color didn't really change. Poco went from golden to silver all over! |
Wow Very Interesting! |
