If he is actually wee-wee pad trained...congratulations! Syd is 7 months and is just getting it down pat now. :rolleyes:

But if you want him to go outside just take the wee-wee pad outside with you when you are taking him. He will still go on the pad...just outside and eventually he'll get it. Lots of praise or treats every time he goes outside and no response when he goes inside on the pad.

Hiya! Welcome to YorkieTalk! For training, you can use the 'pee-pole' which I've heard is good - it's a yellow pole thing, that attracts the dog to pee on it, rather than in the house, you just stick upright in the ground outdoors. As for eating his own doggy-doo-doo, I new someone who hasd this problem, and it is a bit gross, but quite common. I also agree with River said, ther is something ( ithink) that goes in their food. You can also tell him, in a stern voice 'No! Leave it, bad boy.' when he goes to eat any poop. It should work! Wishing the best of luck!

I did not pee pee pad my two but have heard you can move it slowly to the door and then finally outside and it will wean them off the pad. However, mine were trained by 8 months, so it is possible to train them before age 2. What it takes, though, is consistent monitoring and the ability to take them out after eating, playing, sleeping and about every hour in between. I also kept mine in the den and watched them constantly for circling, sniffing, etc. and would quickly pick them up and take them out. I got so tired I thought I would never recover, but it works. If they would go I praised with a higher voicetone than I used when I would encourage them to potty. You want to lower your voice to almost a growl. When Chloe was very small I took her out 24/7 and my hubby said if he heard potty now one more time he would scream but whatever the phrase you pick, again keep it consistent. And I would say, Chloe, good potty, pet and give her a treat. When she would have an accident I would tell her no we don't potty in the house, again, in a low growl voice but do not punish or put her nose in her waste. Lacey was a little easier, although she was much smaller because she basically followed Chloe outside. Now, Chloe gets me and barks if she has to go at an unscheduled time. Lacey gets me but just starts walking to the door, stopping every foot and looking back to see if I'm coming. One lady on the site has hers ringing a bell on her door when it is time to potty. I tried that but mine never got it, they just wanted to play with the bell all the time. You'll pick up a lot of good advice here. Welcome

Thank you for the tips..Guess I should be more consistent with my yorkie.
I do see him going in circles, and at times he will sneek off in another room
to use a rug..lol. That's so funny about the dog ringing a bell..how great that
would be! My sister in law did suggest putting a wee wee pad out on the deck and it actually worked until it rained..what a mess. :( As for the poop eating I talked to my vet. he does have powder to put on the poop to
discourage eating, said it would taste bitter.

I had read somewhere that you don't own a yorkie, a yorkie owns you..how
true. My dog is so funny, thinks he runs the whole house and everyone in it. :) I love looking at all the photo's of all the other yorkies..I'll try to get one of

I just started Macie in Puppy classes at Petsmart and the trainer said not to treat her when she goes on the pad inside and 'up the annie' on the potty outside treats. We just started yesterday so no real feedback yet.

I know I haven't had my baby for very long, but I didn't want to use the pads, my husband wasn't wild about "allowing" her to potty in the house. So we are training outside and she is only about 8 weeks old and she is already asking to go out!!! I'm so proud, I don't think I have ever had a dog that smart! We haven't had any "accidents" inside yet either. Good luck.

You can actually put Tabasco sauce on their poop and it will be soo spicy they will never eat their poop again. Try the Tabasco sauce it works wonders!
