14 yrs old Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you have pets (dogs) that are 14 yrs old. I kept thinking that my sheltie mix was about 11 yrs old. She's been really tired lately so I called vet and I was informed that she's 14 yrs old OMG that makes her 98 in human yrs right? No wonder she's been tired and her legs are wobbly. Don't really know why but I started crying - I think maybe because I realized that she can leave us at any time :( She is my very first dog I rescued her from the street when she was 3 mos old. Growing up we lived in apartment complex so we never had any pets. Just wanted to share |
My standard poodle is 12 years old and she has arthritis. She has trouble getting up and down but once she is up she is fine. I worry every day that I am going to come home and find her dead. She can't hear as well anymore so sometimes when I come home she won't greet me at the door and I freak out! Most of the times she is just sleeping in the bedroom and doesn't hear me but I usually go to find her and then stand there watching to make sure she is breathing. I worry about her all the time and I also worry that when she is gone Teddi will be SO sad. She loves her. She sleeps on top of her and curls up by her. I always hear that big dogs don't live that long so I worry. When I take her to the groomers I bring her bed so she will have a soft place to lay and that works out much better. |
They don't figure 7 years for every year of a dogs life anymore..that's an old wives tale..here is a site that tells you how old a dog is in human years |
I have my little male Mukie who is great great grand daddy to my 3 new yorkies and he's going blind and hard for him to find the door coming back in from out side...He's be such a wonderful dog and my heart breaks watching him... I hand feed him and carry him many times in and out.. I have 13 other yorkies and he's related to most of them.. I remember all the cute things he once did and now it's all so hard for him...:( We have another girl who just turned 18 yrs old Nov 15 and still doing pretty good sleeps alot my girl friend has as well.. Yes, they don't stay long with us must enjoy every minute.... This is why I like the line I have as many live well into their teens and hope to get one to hit twenty.. Keeping my fingers crossed for my senior doggie out their... :) |
My sisters yorkie is 15 years old. He has typical old age issues, but otherwise is doing well. Last time he was at the groomers, they thought he would be easy to do but they were wrong, he put up quite the fight. |
My daughter's maltese is 13. She is really doing ok but is going blind which crushed my daughter. She told the vet it is like watching her sister grow old and die. He told her that Jazzy still had a life to live and not to fret and just love her and that is what they are doing. Just give your gal all the TLC and enjoy her ... she will always have love to give ;) |
