Silly question I really want to get an identification tag for Lexie just in case (God forbid) she ever got away from us. I know enough not to use a around the neck collar for walks because of collapsed trachea and to use a harness instead, but where do you put the id tag if they shouldn't wear a collar? I know this is a silly question, but I would appreciate input nontheless. Thank you in advance! |
I just put mine around the D-ring where you hook the leash. It's good too 'cause it makes a "clink" sound when they're walking, so it's a good indicator for people coming from around the corner that a little yorkie is comin' around! |
You could put it on the harness or some people have their yorkies wear colars but dont use the collar for walking only for ID purposes |
Mine wear a collar and a harness when we go for walks, I have the Avid ID and their ID tag on the collars when we leave the house. (Kinda like a suspender and a belt.:) ) Can't be to cautious these days!!! |

I have a collar and a harness for mine. I put it on the collar with a little bell so I know where he is at all times. During housebreaking the little bell has been very valuable. Its like a kid.. when everything goes quiet, something is up. |
Teddi always has a collar on with her name and phone # and a bell so I can hear her plus half of her "best friends" heart that she shares with my other dog Cassie. It would be weird to me if she were silent! |
Mine have their name and phone # on the back of a little pink St. Francis charm, and a tiny sterling silver doggie with Sworvorski birthstones on the body and clear on the head, then a tiny zidiac charm. I have these on a tiny chain (less than an inch) and hooked to a tiny pinch hook. This way when I change their harnesses from one color to another, I just unhook these and put on the next harness. I don't put the Rabies or Home Again tags on them. |
Thank you! I'll get an id tag today! |
My sons yorkie is 6 mos today and 3 lbs..although she uses a harness on his walks, they do have a little collar on him with his little name tag, phone number, etc on the collar |
My breeder told me you could not do obediance training with a harness and that you must use a collar? Help... |
I had Tessa's id tag and rabies tag on her collar that she wore all the time. (We use a harness for walks) I read another thread on YT where a woman's yorkie's tags got caught in her heat vent on the floor and almost choked her baby! Tessa doesn't wear anything when she is in the house anymore.:( |

Well, I dont want to hurt my baby!!!! What to do? |
How do you all get your puppies used to the collar? I put Scrappy's collar on before we even left the breeder's house, but he couldn't even walk for stopping to try to scratch it off (hilarious to see though - he would be walking and trying to lift his back leg up and trip and do somersaults...). Since it is the middle of winter and we've been having extremely low temperatures since I got him (a week ago), we have yet to go outside. He's using puppy pads... and the carpet, darnit. But I figured since he's not even going outside that I'd just not make him wear the collar. What should I do to get him used to collar/harness/ any of it? thanks, Diana (in Missouri) |

So basically I used the harness as a reward for them to go on their walks. And they know not to with out me putting the leash on it too. It takes time for them to get used to it but be consistant even if right now he is not going out for walks. |
